On December 3 Depeche Mode will release a newly upgraded expanded definitive box set edition of the 101 documentary concert film and live album chronicling the 101st and final performance of the band's Music For The Masses world tour, recorded live at the Pasadena Rose Bowl on June 18, 1988.
A groundbreaking collaborative documentary, 101 was co-directed by acclaimed husband-and-wife filmmaking team D.A. Pennebaker (Dont Look Back) and Chris Hegedus (The War Room) with active creative input from Depeche Mode, who had held an exclusive contest for fans offering an appearance in a Depeche Mode movie as the prize. 101's narrative through-line of contest winners traveling across America to attend Depeche Mode's landmark Rose Bowl concert is a cinematic precursor to the youth culture trend in "reality tv" programming. Depeche Mode's 101 captures the electrifying synergy between the band and their fans.
This new HD edition of has been meticulously upgraded using 4k scans of the original film reels to create an all-new viewing experience.
The 101 Blu-ray includes three previously unseen bonus performances of "A Question of Lust," "Sacred" and "Something To Do" plus the official promotional video for "Everything Counts."
Additional contents in the new, limited edition Depeche Mode 101 box set include: a 48 page behind-the-scenes story of the day photo book with exclusive imagery; a 20" x 30" replica of original US theatrical release movie poster; a 16 page Anton Corbijn Photo Mode book as featured in the original album release; a double CD of the original 20 track 101 concert release; and a Download Card providing access to 4K downloads of the film and bonus performances plus 24-bit audio files of the 101 concert release. The two DVDs in the set contain the original extras from the 2003 DVD release of Depeche Mode - 101, which are exclusive to the DVD discs.

When "101 "first came out in the theatres, it literally played for only 3 nights at a local art house cinema here in Montreal called The Rialto. Each night it was sold-out with lines literally around the block. I went to all three showings and it left an indelible impression on me. I knew I was witnessing a band that was approaching its zenith and a legend in the making. And 33 years later, here I am.

Imagine going back in a time machine to attend that concert in person. Has to be one of the top 5 live concerts ever performed by any band, anywhere , ever. Epic. I wish there was quality concert video footage complete from start to finish uninterrupted, like the 101 audio CD set.

as a french boy i was this is my very first album of DM bought in London in June 1989 while a school trip. I've discovered the band thanks to "everything counts" extracted from this live and played with loops on radio in France ... since this moment i started my love for this band and the best of them will come with the next album ...

I remember being in 7th grade and buying the VHS box set of this. Even if you have never listened to a single Depeche Mode song, I would recommend watching this. It's just a good film. The melancholy scene where Dave said that he was his happiest when he was just a stockboy in a grocer still haunts me. It foreshadowed things to come.

It is awesome to see 101 get reissued again especially on blu ray. Although many will say this is kinda timed to DM's 40th anniversary, I believe this is a make good for not having a new album out this year breaking their "release an album every 4 years since 1993" cycle.

Showing my age here, but I had this on VHS when I was 14 years old. My bestfriend was an obsessed fan too, her and I literally watched this daily, and we were so jealous of the "ones" that got to go on tour with them!

Did anyone else see this at the Dominion Theatre London on its release night? I was 14 and the band were 2 rows in front of me watching it with us. Best movie night ever. I bunked off school to get there on time.

R.I.P Andrew. I am so incredibly sad and just crying. You were the anchor of Depèche Mode and now you have hoisted your sails and are no longer here.
I wish the family, friends and companions a lot of strength in the difficult time. For me, it's also like losing a good friend. Depèche Mode has been a presence in my life for 40 years and so has Andrew Fletcher who was so loving and funny. You will be missed.

When Depeche Mode came to Prague in March 1988 to give a concert, it was an incredible sensation. When the news spread around the country, a quarter of a million people wanted to see the dark legend's concert. Crowds of fans of the band spent the night in front of the counters of the Sports Hall, where tickets were sold. Thirteen thousand tickets were sold. I was 16 years old and I was there. I will never forget that experience.
