Nationals Senator Matt Canavan says there were a record number of Australians out “commemorating" Anzac Day.

Mr Canavan said there were reports of “record turnouts” in his area of Central Queensland.

“There were record Australians out commemorating the sacrifices of our ancestors, especially at the dawn services this morning,” he said.

“Most Australians of course want to recognise those sacrifices, want to take a moment to come together as a country to unite and show gratitude for how lucky we are.

“It seems now there’s going to be a new attempt to hijack as you say Anzac Day, just as Australia day has already been hijacked.”

We need to continue to hold ANZAC Day as a sacred day for Australia. We need to take the time to remember the commitment and sacrifice made by our past generations in defending our country and the freedom we enjoy and take for granted. Our servicemen and women both past and currently serving deserve our respect and our support.

Not that the place where i work the indoor management staff didnt even say 1 thing about Australian veterans or of ANZAC Day Even in the CEO's meeting NOT ONE WORD was said about veterans including myself. All they are interested in is themselves. Disrepect to my ancestors and to me even tho i have served this country. Council is along Marion rd South Australia

ANZAC day and Victory day at Moscow are but two examples of orchestrated rituals of persuasion; events that are held each year to celebrate and encourage the continued blind obedience of the heroic universal soldier, irrespective of his or her nationality and allegiance. Lest we forget or even know, that war is not possible without the universal soldier supported as they are by by the universal labour and skills of the waged workers who produce their weapons. This relatively massive number of working class men and women throughout the world are commanded, paid and supervised by a chain of command that leads back to a relatively minuscule number of ruling and political class men and women. Why doe this continue to be allowed let alone celebrated?

The historical genocide of the first Australians and the current ongoing genocide of the Palestinians should not interfere with the commemoration of the genocidal slaughter of the wars we so fondly celebrate.
