Sky News host Peta Credlin acknowledges Anzac Day speaks to the best of Australians and the country as she gave thanks to fallen soldiers and the Australian Defence Force.

Australians paused to honour our servicemen and women for Anzac Day at dawn services around the country.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese honoured fallen soldiers and current Australian Defence Force members during an address delivered along the Kokoda Track in Papua New Guinea.

“What's abundantly clear today as many hundreds of thousands of Australians turned out to pay their respects before the monuments to the fallen that grace even the smallest of our towns, is the quiet pride and confidence, nearly all of us have, thank God, that this is still the best country in the world to live,” Ms Credlin said.

“And that's our challenge today: to keep it that way.

“We honour all those who have served and all those who still serve and hope that we might be worthy of their legacy and the country that their sacrifice has kept, and still keeps, free.

“Lest we forget.”

My father served in the Light Horse and my 2 brothers were killed in Vietnam…I served in the reserves…my pride is immeasurable….my most treasured items I own are..my father’s slouch hat with his emu feathers and his bandalir…my eldest brother’s metal helmet he wore as a tank commander….and my second eldest brother’s slouch hat with the rising sun badge…..those who mock and simply do not understand…shame on you….educate yourself and don’t be ignorant because small minds simply do not understand..…Lest We Forget.

Well said, PETA. We forget to stop and think about how lucky we all are. If people want to show up and protest, well there are plenty planes to go back and serve your country wherever that is. But just remember the beautiful country you have come to. PEACE FOR ALL HERE. So grow up. It’s our Diggers Day and I respect them all past and present. Thank you all.

What a tragedy that the monumental sacrifice of that generation is no longer taught in schools. We no longer respect what others have done for us.

I stand with Australia today as a veteran in the USA. My father fought in the South Pacific during WW II. Although he never mentioned any Australian troops being with him, they both fought a brutal enemy. I salute the great men and women of Australia who fought for their country! A job well done!!!!!

BOTH of my sons are in the ADF. They marched with pride today, and to hear that people are disrespecting the lives lost, and those who are willing to die for this country, makes me sick!

Thank you Peta! I was anxious this morning that today would be ruined by all this mass stupidity and disrespect! My great uncle volunteered his future life and hopes to defend Australia's borders from Sydney to Darwin, for all Australians! It was a joy to see the crowd in Gallipoli, and the amount of young Australians and locals attending! The service in France was just as beautiful, as unselfish, appreciative and respectfully conducted as usual! Every school should replay this positive international recognition of our armed forces, hear the stories, and learn the true meaning of Anzac Day! 🇦🇺
