lyrics:
Take your hurting heart
Throw it in my face
God I hate this part
Letโs go for coffee
You can tell me how itโs all my fault
You are my best friend
And that hasnโt changed
Wish that we could mend this
I had a freak out
I tried to reach out and you ignored me
Lauren said
You were working at the bar
Pulling pints for rich guys
Wishing on a star
Now youโve got new friends
I donโt doubt it
And to them Iโm just some girl who broke your heart and wrote a song about it
Weโve been out on tour
How is London Town?
Itโs so stupid hot in Texas now
Itโs hard to breathe oh Iโm not built
to try and carry all this guilt you gave me
And I know, when Iโm home
Iโm bound to see you somewhere
Youโll keep walking, you owe me nothing
But itโll kill me right there
Iโd rather scream it at the wall
Than not say it at all
I miss you
Marcus said
That you seem to be alright
I pretend I donโt care - but it keeps me up at night
Youโve got new friends
I donโt doubt it
And to them Iโm just some girl who broke your heart and wrote a song about it
And Iโve got new friends
Just to let you know
And to them youโre just some boy who lost his mind and took a while to let go

this is such SMART songwriting. the lyrics that play with hearing things through the grapevine ("Lauren said..." "Marcus said...") perfectly illustrate the distance one feels when someone who was your best friend is no longer part of your life. it makes the last line of the chorus ("and to them i'm just some girl who broke your heart and wrote a song about it") that much more of a punch to the gut. these "new friends" will never know who you were to that person. a MASTERCLASS in using perspective. love you, orla!
