This is so detailed.
I love how ‘his’ voice isn’t harmonising with hers, it’s like a shadow, it’s just an exact mirror of how she sings. He doesn’t have any original thoughts. Even tiny vocal flourishes are exactly the same as hers. He doesn’t have anything she didn’t give him.
And she’s gazing at him with all that love, waiting for him to respond to her meaningfully, and she’s so disappointed that he doesn’t. But when she leaves him in the attic, he turns to watch her go, but she doesn’t turn back in time to see it.
I love watching this. The worldbuilding is so rich and the song is so beautiful that I can’t get tired of it.

Ever since Hazel pointed it out on the behind the scenes video, I can't get over the seemingly continuous deep breath across two shots at 2:20. Dodie does breath along to the swells of the music and it's all too perfect

Okay, so it looks like people are taking this music video poetically, which is way cool. I took it rather literally. To me it looks like some girl is unable to find the companionship she wants among real people (either because she's just a bit demented or because of a post-apocalyptic scenario) and she has convinced herself to create the companion instead. She has the power to do so, driving herself mad by being able to create everything about a companion except companionship, making me horrified both by her and for her. It's very ray bradbury to me and I love it. It has a flavor from the episode of the Twilight Zone called "the lonely" where a man is banished to a planet alone, but has been granted a robot woman companion, and convinces himself that she is a real person.

One of the best things about Dodie's music is how the lyrics can change meaning over time. I feel like when this was written it was about being excited to get to know someone, feeling drawn towards them and wanting to unpick their brain. Now it feels like the message has changed to the dangers of the human condition- wanting to be loved so bad that we fall in love with the idea of someone, and not who they truly are. We fill the gaps in our lives with manifestations of who we need other people to be.
