More Information:
It's been requested for many years, and finally, after managing to get our hands on a few bottles... the time has come! Jeppson's Malört is a type of bäsk liqueur, widely regarded as "the worst booze ever" - so, naturally, we had to TRY it! We sat our resident Irish People down to see what they thought of this infamous drink...

"It can't be that bad." Oh, Dermot. My sweet summer child. Chicagoans use this to weed out the weak.

There is a website of Malört quotes “Malört. Because tonight’s the night you’re gonna fight your dad” is my personal favorite. I’ve often said that it tastes like distilled sadness.

If malört doesn't make an appearance in the next episode of drink roulette or mystery alcohol, there is no God

Malort was not prohibited under prohibition because the government sampled it and decided nobody would ever drink it for enjoyment.

I hadn't even heard of Malort previously and when I searched for what it tastes like, I found quotes such as: "gasoline on the rocks with a twist of regret" "pencil shavings and depression" "starts off as grapefruit and honey, but with an aftertaste of gasoline, earwax, and bug spray"

Malört means moth herb and it’s the Swedish name for wormwood. Back in the day it was hung in cloths cabinet to keep moths away hence the name. The worm wood needs to be dried and aged in a special way. My dad made his own Malört or Besk as it’s called in my province and and he would dry it in our kitchen so the smell of wormwood is a smell of my childhood.

As a native Chicagoan who first encountered it 40+ years ago, I thank you for this. Mallort rocks.

The creator of Malört reputedly had destroyed his taste buds and this drink was the only thing he could taste. There's also a rumor that it was the only alcohol legally allowed to be made in Chicago during Prohibition because it was decided it had to be medicinal, as nobody would drink it for pleasure.

This is the best description I’ve heard about that vile stuff. “It’s like gasoline was gargled in garbage, set on fire and then a rat took a shit in it and it rotted from there.”
