this song is based off a french case called "L'Inconnue de la Seine". An unidentified girl who drowned in the River Seine in Paris. It was suspected to be a suicide since there were no signs of violence. The coroner made a death mask of her face since he thought she was so beautiful even in death; her smile reminded him of mona lisas'. Her mien is what has made her such an enigma, even though she drowned, which is known to be a long painful death, her face looks so at peace. Her face became infamous and the masks were reproduced and in many fascinated artists' houses. She was said to have been so widely known that she became the beauty standard of France in the 1880s.
