Weird History Food is tapping some boxed wine history! For over 50 years, boxed wine has seemingly waterfalled endless fountains of booze into the mouths of college kids and concertgoers alike. Some of us may have hazy memories of drinking from the wine bladder, or grabbing a box on the way to a party. Franzia Boxed wine was at the heart of it all, and yet, over the years, many labels jumped into the boxed wine game.... growing he reputation from its party animal past, into a respectable commodiyy. Grab yourself a glass of boxed wine and visually imbibe our latest offering!

Ugh...my parents bought these back in the 80's. And then used the bags for floatation devices for me and my sister at the beach. Which always attracted yellowjackets...

Boxes will last anywhere "between four and six weeks", shit they don't last 4-6 days in my house.

I wonder how much of Franzia’s sales are from restaurants. I’m a line cook and we tear thru their Chablis for deglazing and building sauces but no one drinks it!

The bladder always reminds me of a giant "Capri Sun for adults", because it's empty way too soon.

I work as a cook, and we use franzia a lot for cooking, cause it’s cheap and easier to store than a regular bottle of wine

My Granddaughter calls it cardboardeux.

Never underestimate cheap wine; it gets the job done, and most wine snobs probably can't tell the difference anyway.

I switched to boxed wine because my husband doesn't drink (just the occasional beer), and I usually only have one glass with dinner, so a bottle would go bad by the time I finished it. My go-to is the Black Box Cabernet.

I really like the little boxes, I believe about 500ml. They are great for camping and don't have to worry about breakage as with a glass bottle

I used to buy Franzia a lot. I preferred the white over the red.....and unlike some of my wine-snob buddies took pride in my love for the cheap stuff.

History in a nutshell: man wanted a drink but there was no drinking allowed at work so he put a bottle of wine in a box so they wouldn't catch him drinking 🎉

I absolutely love the boxed wine backpack, so you can drink on the go. Drunk backpacking, what can go wrong?

As an Australian, I have definitely drank my share of boxed wine or Goon, and of course played the famous Goon of Fortune.

We call them casks in Australia. It makes guzzling bulk wine sound classier.

Admit it…we all look down on box wine drinkers. BUT…if we were given a glass of box wine and a glass of 10-year top shelf vintage, we probably couldn’t tell the difference. I wouldn’t be surprised to learn that most restaurants who sell wine by the glass actually use boxes instead of bottles because it makes for easier storage.

Grandma and Grandpa always had a box of wine in the fridge when I was growing up..... I used to peek out the kitchen and when the coast was clear just put my head under the spout and let loose 😂

The pandemic did wonders for boxed wine is the lesson learned here

I have tried Franzia, Bota Box and Barefoot so far. While I admit that they are not my weekend favorites, I like the price and the convenience for sipping during the week, and and I will keep trying other brands. Thanks for including the image (around 10:33) of the various brands. i had no idea there were so many to choose from.

Winemaking is ridiculously easy. You could start up a gallon of must in a couple of hours, and have drinkable (maybe not the best tasting) wine in about 2 weeks. Off the shelf juice, sugar and bread yeast will do the trick, lol....
