Milk & Honey is about the courage to believe in yourself when no one else does. It’s about willing your way to success (whatever that means to you). One thing I’ve learned over the years is no one’s gonna create the life you want for you. Only you have the power to do that. We live in a dog-eat-dog, “crabs in a bucket” type of world. People are going to poke you, bring you down, tell you it’s not possible. But what I’m learning to do is “stick to the plan, till it sticks to you” and trusting that my gut and intuition will guide me to where I want to go. Most often, it starts by taking a risk. In Jongo’s case, he spent one too many mornings looking in the mirror and not liking who he was seeing in the reflection. He knew he had to make a change, even if he didn’t have it all figured out yet. But that blind gut feel, that intuition, was the first step. And who the hell could have guessed it would eventually lead him to Canada, to meet me, and to become part of an international band with an incredible following of unique individuals around the world? No one! But that’s the power of the universe. Things just happen sometimes, but only if you put yourself in the position to let it. In 2019, Rare Americans had a viral moment with Brittle Bones Nicky. That changed the course of our lives. We have been trying to re-create a moment since then, and it hasn’t happened. This year I came up with a grand master plan to release a TON of new music & videos, which I feel is our rawest and best yet. We put a lot of time, effort, and love into this project, and even though Act 1 wasn’t a viral smash off the get-go, I can’t “let tough thoughts control my behaviour”. I must “accept uncertainty, and do what I want anyway, cuz life means tolerating, it’s the game we play”. This is my daily reminder to stick to the plan, bet on ourselves, and let the universe work as it should. I may not be able to control the outcome, but what I can control is my perspective and my effort level. “This man in the mirror is coming to play.” So to anyone reading this, I hope this song can be your “get up and take action” song.
