The "cat guy" doesn't break the book in the literal way, the book makes him able to use its claws.
I guess the story talks about someone that consume drugs and goes to jail, then, some people hurt the guy. Then, other men, the intelligent ones use the main character to fight some dogs and after that they leave without getting caught, and leave the cat on its luck.
