I made two creative decisions for this video that I hope those who are nuts about accuracy (myself included) will overlook.
1: Mariner 10 launched at night. The amount of available source material for this mission was so low that I decided to give you the best show I could regarding the launch, and so put together some of the most beautiful Atlas-Centaur angles I have. I did this so that this video would have an appealing launch scene, but just know the launch footage is not from the Mariner 10 mission.
2: The images of Venus and Mercury were from all sorts of missions -- Mariner 10 included, of course...but I also used images from MESSENGER, Magellan, Akatsuki, etc. I did this because the over-arching subject of this video were the planets themselves, not just Mariner 10. I wanted to showcase the beauty of these places in ways that the images of Mariner 10 could only partially accomplish.
I know this video was a bit of a step down emotionally from STS-107 and Apollo 13, but hopefully not a step backwards. I hope you enjoyed it all the same.

I've seen two of these documentaries, this one and the one on the Mercury Program. Both were absolutely wonderful - informative, well done, imaginative, scientifically correct, and excellent. In a word, beautiful. I don't know who you are but my heartfelt thanks for the tremendous efforts you have put into these. Excellent work!

I was a teenager when the Mariner 10 stamp came out, and it was especially eye-catching. I went to the post office and bought a bunch of them with money I made cutting neighbors' yards. Not sure why, except I was one of millions of children who grew up with the space race and really liked the design.

The more I watch these documentaries the more I want. Great narration. Great sympathetic scoring. No over dramatisation, just plane honest story telling. And such great story telling it is. The use of obscure facts, never widely known before, is compelling. I have worked in television for over 30 years and I think I know a labour of love when I see it. Story telling Carl Sagan would be proud of. Well done sir. Long may your work continue.

You should win an Academy Award for this work! These are by far the best space program documentaries ever made, by far!
