Honestly. Not blowing smoke up u'r arse; I have studied theory for years on and off but nobody has been able to convey these concepts to me so clearly. You're an amazing teacher!

You know what! You have such an excellent way of teaching. One of the biggest things that we all have in common, such as those wanting to learn lead, music theory etc....is that when you start watching videos or even reading books, it feels like one of those wrecking balls coming at you, because there is way too much information to digest right off the hop, and that is what immediately turns people away. We become frustrated with ourselves because we feel like we should be able to understand it, but it's too overwhelming. I guess a good analogy would be teaching someone to swim. You don't throw them out into ten feet of water and start yelling swim!! They will most definitely panic and probably drown. Your way of teaching is EXCELLENT. You have a way with calming us down as you explain, because you take little bits of information and put it together like a puzzle one piece at a time, and at the same time you assure us that we will understand it more as you keep adding the pieces to the puzzle. Thank you for your videos. You are truly appreciated from many of us!

Thank you so so much for what you do. You really take the intimidation out of the topics, make them clear, concise and fun with great examples and love the advice to see how they relate to their relative major or minor and then to create riffs targeting the different secret sauce note(s) - definitely going to practice that and really appreciate your excellent teaching and advice!

I’ve been watching Stitch Method for over a year now and it has improved my playing and understanding of the guitar more then any other method I’ve used. The depth the videos go into and how you back to topics helps give me better understanding of how I approach playing. Before I would just run through scales without understanding that I’m just was noodling scale. I recommend this site to anyone who wants to improve their understanding of how to play. I’m not a jam band guy but the lesson are top notch.

Great lesson, Ian! Remember when I embarked on my journey to learn about modes 5 years ago, and I sent you some charts that I made up, comparing each mode to the relative major and minor scales, indicating which notes changed? And I included a third chart, showing which notes changed compared to the pentatonic of the "parent major scale" -- in each case, the mode includes all 5 notes of the major pentatonic, plus two additional notes; those two notes vary depending on the mode, but all of the modes have the same 5 notes in common.
