I’m a counselor in training currently, which means I help children get over pain. I had a child one of my regulars bright amazing kid, he came in and said, and I will never forget. “What is life?” I was probably the only person who knew how to tell this kid. I said, “Life is a game that we all play, some go through a rough time in the game, but they always come back. Your names PRIVATE and you are what?” He said, “I’m losing.” I replied with, “Buddy there are three losers in the game of life.” He asked what are they? I replied, “Greed, Jealousy, and depression. But, you can fix all three nobody ever loses the game of life some people just finish early.” This kid was 12 at the time and he smiled his parents cried because it had been a long time since he smiled. He lost his brother and sister to a crash when he was 10 and he lost his friend to suicide at 11. He’s doing a lot better now and he still comes in and talks to me regularly.
