Buffy Sainte-Marie Under Attack-Listen to Buffy’s Words – You Decide! EP 279

Buffy Sainte-Marie

An icon, a high-profile leader for indigenous nations, a legendary singer/songwriter, Oscar winner, Order of Canada recipient,  Juno winner.

Apparently, that’s not good enough for CBC Television.

Their flagship investigative show Fifth Estate has accused Buffy of not being ingenious. A pretender.

Because Buffy and I were talking about her documentary Carry It On, she made a point of talking about her childhood and adoption.

I’ve known Buffy for a very long time. She has represented indigenous nations most of her life. She lived her life and spoke her truth.

This interview has been quoted in various articles.

Please have a listen and find your truth.

I’ve got Buffy’s words and music.  Good enough for me.

Thank You

Until I saw The Fifth Estate report I was hoping there was something to explain this. There is not and sadly she is a liar and a fraud and she has hurt several indigenous nations. She needs to apologize and make amends to those peoples.

Buffy talking about "truth and reconciliation" - how ironic

She marketed herself as a Cree woman from SK her entire career. This is not true . . . and she knew it. End of story for me. The music stands . . . but it will never be the same.

What upsets me the most about this whole situation is that there must have been something in her that thought she could do better than a real Aboriginal person. So she went for it. There's a lot of hidden narcissism in her. Her mockery is demonic in nature. To fool and take advantage of the First Nations for 50 years is cruel. As if the Native American Nations haven't suffered enough injustice and lies for the past 500 years. No one is disputing her talent as a songwriter. But did she have to pretend to be an Indigenous person? She could have always been herself and still help the Native Nations without having to pretend to be one of them. There's something so dark about that. She shone a false light for decades. Similar to the story of Lucifer. I know she helped many Native people but at what cost? Being "nice" is not the same as being a good person. Not only does my heart break for the Native Nations that believe in her, but also for her Italian/English American real family. 💔

Not only is she not indigenous, she’s not not even Canadian! Her birth certificate clearly shows who her parents are and where she was born.

She signed her marriage license with the same info as her birth certificate. Sorry Terry, I get that you're devastated. Great songwriters can be great liars, too.

She toned done her dark skin for the podcast. If you watch her interviews through the years, especially her biography, she caked on the dark make up and fresh black hair dye. The lady has lied for over 60 years.

Sad part here Buffy actually believes her lies - take a DNA test and be done

Sorry. But she lied, and the evidence is overwhelming. She knew the truth, and chose to benefit instead from a career based on pretending she was something that she was not. I'm afraid that regardless of the good she may have done and the awareness she brought to the indigenous cause, her name will now be associated with controversy and falsehoods.

She needs to come clean and return all her awards and honours

at 9:45 in the interview you can see from her body language, the moment the lies begin. She touches her nose, looks to the side, shakes her head, blinks rapidly and begins to talk very quickly while talking about "not knowing" her identity.. she does the exact same mannerisms in the video where she claims to have been on the "wrong side of the blanket", it's what I've noticed she does in these sort of interviews when she speaks of things that did not occur.

Disgusting. The amount of advantages she got on her lies is more enormous than many will ever know.

Can't deny a birth certificate! Why the need to lie? Beverly/Buffy can support Indigenous people everywhere without lying. Why not be proud of who you are Buffy - a white, American with Italian/English roots. Canadian fan since I was 16 in '66. Hard to listen to her now.

This could be turned around if Buffy did one last tour. The "Beverly Jean Santamaria Truth and Reconciliation Tour". At each event she would burn up one of her awards and perform a new folk song about false identity.

I am an Indigenous woman that wants her to return her awards and pay for her atrocious behavior! And, I want justice for her real white mother. The way Bluffy made her suffer is NOT Indigenous.

The fact that she signed her name to a marriage certificate listing where she was born, her birthdate, etc. proves she knew all along exactly who she was.

Denial is one of the stages of grief. Sometimes when someone decieves us our immediate reaction is to not believe that person was capable of doing it to us. The doc was pretty maticulous and thorough and she knew this was coming for months yet only addressed it the days before the doc aired. She's had a hell of a career and did a lot of good but it appears she also had us all fooled.

What really shows me Bluffy's true colours is her horrific treatment of her brother, threatening him with lawsuits and a smear campaign for telling the truth about her identity--and right befiore she appeared on Sesame Street! 😢. As an actual Sixties Scoop survivor who watched her on that show as a child and saw her as a role model, I feel angry and betrayed by Bluffy's charade. In hindsight I can see now her supreme confidence and creative output is totally inconsistent with the lifelong trauma, CPTSD and identity crisis that accompanies being stolen from one's Indigenous family. Seeing her now just makes me cringe.

She built her career and life on a foundation of lies. A sad truth for her and Canadian music fans. I can't begin to imagine the psychological implications of perpetuating such a massive public deception for 60+ years... Maybe she's come to believe her own story over the years...
