Galileo was born in 1564 in Pisa during the Renaissance. In 1609, Galileo invented a telescope with 30x magnification, allowing him to make groundbreaking astronomical observations. His discoveries included the moons of Jupiter and evidence supporting a moving Earth, challenging the geocentric view. As Galileo became more open about his heliocentric views, he faced opposition from the church. The Pope's Inquisition found him "vehemently suspect of heresy" and forced him to recant his views to avoid torture. Galileo died under house arrest, leaving a legacy as a key figure in the Scientific Revolution and a proponent of the union of natural philosophy and mathematics.

I will always remember Galileo as a hero for telling the truth about the Cosmos.

Galileo will always and forever be one of my favorite geniuses. Because of him, I adore staring into the sky and learning more about the universe. I hate math, though. ๐Ÿ˜ฌ Even though, whenever I did it right in school, it was always attached to astronomy.

The claim at 13:15 that Aristotle's view (of heliocentrism) was in line with the teachings of the church is exactly backwards. Aristotle's cosmological model predated the church by hundreds of years.

Heโ€™s one of the reasons I could never remain a member of the church after I was able to decide for myself and the fact that I took anthropology in high school and learned about evolution.

In the Defense of the Church: 1. There is absolutely no Biblican justification for the Church believing Aristotle's theory; they just liked to think they were the center of the universe. 2. The documentary misquoted (in a subtle way) Galileo: he actually said, "math is the language that God used to create the universe" and Galileo was known to be a dedicated Christian. So basically my point is it's not True that he was battling his Faith but only searching for Truths and doing it in line with his Faith.

Really folks, I wish you folks drastically reduce 'conclusive statements opinions ABOUT Galeleo's behaviour and simply state what he did and said. Your conclusions distort my perceptions about this great man.

The opening lines feel amazingly accurate, and could describe one of my biggest fights with the world today. Being denied my own autonomy, rips apart my mentality.

/"About accurate measurements: G had made a very accurate stopwatch. A container with water and a little pipe that let the water out. So to measure a time interval one hold a finger to block the pipe and move the finger to let the water run at start and at stop block the pipe again. The amount of water that ran out was weighted and that is proportional with the time and nearly as accurate as any modern manual stopwatch.

Better late than never: It should be noted that on 31 October 1992, Pope John Paul II expressed regret for how the Galileo affair was handled, and officially conceded that the Earth was not stationary, as the result of a study conducted by the Pontifical Council for Culture.
