Rue is a very old cultivated plant with long magical associations. It's also an important larval host plant for butterflies so if you want them in your garden, by all means plant rue!

This plant is special to me. Growing up in Ethiopia, my mother would put this in the milk every morning for breakfast. She would also use it for coffee. The smell brings back some of the best memories of my childhood. In my native language, it's called "tena' adam" which literally means "health of Adam". I envy the fact that you have it in your backyard.

In Uruguay we call it RUDA (Roo-da). It's very common to use it for protection against "bad / negative energy". If you grow it in your front yard or near your front door it will keep evil spirits away. It's also used to bless newborns and heal babies & toddlers when they're sick.

We’ve used this as medical: tea for nausea/vomiting/vertigo. Also in ear for ear aches. Also said to be good luck and yes ward of bad vibes! Old remedies from my mother, Mexico

We use it in Brazil against evil spirits and evil eyes. We call it “arruda”. Especially spiritualists grow it at home and keep a single leaf behind their left ear.

I loved reading all your comments here learning how people from around the globe use this amazing plant. I’ve had one in my garden for several years and because I am about to move, she deposited a cute little baby rue seedling in a pot that was sitting out there!

I don't know why I like Rue so much, but If butterflies love it, then I do to. You come across as a very kind person.

I’m about to propagate using my moms plant. She’s used it for years in cooking and to make a delicious tea with Rue, Laurel leaves, and cinnamon.

We eat this in China lol... it's called smelly grass over here and we make desert out of them with mung beans, which is very common... it's quite easy you might even want to try it :D

Thank you for sharing your wealth of knowledge. I came about your video because my seeds are sprouting indoors, and now hopefully will transplant outdoor next spring, looking forward to the black swallowtails. Be blessed 💕
