The guy who penalised Alonso was the same one that told him to retire when he had an accident on 2016... When Alonso was back racing, he told him "You ended up as a commentator because you were not a world champion, mate" looks like he remembered that...

Excellent analysis of what actually happened and how GR, as an F1 driver, failed to react to 'on track' conditions.

In my 25+ years of wachting F1 this penalty has to be one of the most absurd penalties I have ever seen.

the part annoying me, and i think a lot of others, the most, is the, honestly, blatant lie that george crashing wasn't factored in. it's the only reason they looked at all. the gall to claim otherwise really drives me up a tree.

Are they supposed to race? Or do a 58 lap parade?

It looks exactly like his crash with Bottas (Imola 21). He was so focused on hunting down his opponent that his situational awareness was in OFF mode.

So if you drive differently while defending it’s “erratic” because it won’t match your data on laps when you were on your own. Absolutely insane. Just call the race after qualifying then if racing is “erratic”

Alonso used the same tactics he used against Michael Schumacher in his epic defensive driving win in Imola

Herbert is still angry about what Alonso said to him in 2016.

So I’ve seen people get penalties for making contact and putting someone out of a race but this is the first I’ve seen a penalty for no contact and someone else’s miss judgement

It's the oldest trick in the book, you slow down early and force your opponent back to slow down early while you get on the gas on the turn and make a gap to the car behind, he caught George unaware and that's that, if George didn't lose it we won't having to talk about this, it's not deserving of a penaly.

Never seen a sport so badly mismanaged by its governing body. The FIA is actively promoting more boring and bland racing. There is no way this should have been a penalty. What an embarrassment the FIA are.

Lewis did this to Seb one year at Spa and was lauded for his tactical genius. Lewis confirmed in interviews after the race, that he intentionally lifted off of his throttle at the exit of Eau Rouge/Raidillon, trying to catch Seb off-guard, forcing him to brake or also lift off and thus lose momentum and put him behind on his acceleration curve and thus be less likely to gain enough relative speed to be able to draft and overtake Lewis down the Kemmel Straight. It worked and nobody was claiming it was dangerous at the time, the focus was on how clever it was.

That backwards facing camera shows everything I need to see. George Russell just crashed it like a rookie

The one constant in FIA stewarding is penalizing Alonso too much for too little.
