Discover the fascinating story of Life of Agony, a band whose roots trace back to the hardcore scene but evolved into a unique blend of alternative metal. Formed in 1989, the band's early years were marked by personal struggles and musical experimentation, culminating in their debut album "River Runs Red" in 1993, a groundbreaking conceptual narrative touching on theme of personal suffering.

Despite facing challenges and lineup changes over the years, including the departure of original vocalist Keith Caputo, the band continued to push boundaries and explore new musical territories with albums like "Ugly" and "Soul Searching Sun." In 2003, they embarked on a series of reunion shows and eventually released their fourth album, "Broken Valley," in 2005.

The band's journey took a significant turn in 2011 when Caputo came out as transgender, transitioning to Mina Caputo. This momentous event brought both personal and professional changes for the band, yet they persevered, releasing albums like "A Place Where There's No More Pain" in 2017 and "The Sound of Scars" in 2019, the latter serving as a sequel to their iconic debut.

With a rich history spanning over three decades, Life of Agony remains a powerful force in the alternative metal scene, continuing to create music that resonates with audiences worldwide. Stay tuned as they embark on new musical endeavors and celebrate milestones like the 30th anniversary of "River Runs Red" with commemorative tours and documentaries. I've played with LOA a bunch of times. Fantastic group and people. You failed to mention their current drummer, Veronica Bellino, who in her own right is a awesome drummer, multi-instrumentalist and great person.

Saw them in 95ish at Mississippi Nights in St Louis. It was a phenomenal experience. My friends and I still talk about going to that show.

Agony was my soundtrack in high school. Growing up in a suburb of Boston I would see them at least ten times a year between Boston, providence, Worcester and Hartford in the years 92-95. Joey Z was the coolest, Keith was always standoffish but funny as hell when he wanted to be. I fell out when soul searching son came out. The transgender thing never bothered me but honestly his voice was never the same.

Hung out with Joey Z on their tour bus when I was 16 and he was one of the nicest people Iā€™ve ever met. He encouraged me to never give up being a musician and said that there was no difference between him and I, and if I didnā€™t quit that Iā€™d make it.

Sal is and has been my favorite drummer. The first time I heard his style and creativity especially the subtle differences from Type Oā€™s SDAH to OOTF is awesome and that breakdown in TOO LATE FROZEN blew my mind as a 15 year old drummer. I tabbed out all his beats on notebook paper and studied them. Then when I heard how he augmented the songs of LOA. It really opened my eyes to songwriting.

Saw them in 1995, became a fan that day. The bill was Life of Agony, Deftones, and Anthrax. Great show! Would only see them once more in 1997 with Cannibal Corpse, Anthrax, and the Misfits.

I donā€™t remember when I first heard of LOA, but the first time I heard their music was actually in 2011 when Heaven Shall Burn covered ā€œRiver Runs Red.ā€

My name is the same name of that guy. I remember that incident when it happened. It gave me the chills when I saw it on MTV news.

I remember listening to LOA, Pantera, White Zombie, Biohazard, Vision of Disorder and Agnostic Front in high school. Very surprised to see a video on LOA.

I am 45 and only have 1 tattoo and its the LOA circle of skulls logo from River Runs Red . Love that band still . after River I thought they got kinda weak at first because it wasn't the same and caught me off guard , but soon I fell in love with ALL of their stuff !!!! The songs Here I Am ,Here I Stay and Drowning from the 1989-1999 album are two of my favorites
