Explore the captivating journey of the band Snot, a group that defied the nu-metal label, carving a niche as a rock band with a punk heart. Formed in 1994, founder Mikey Doling, influenced by funk-punk, joined forces with frontman Lynn Strait, a charismatic yet complicated personality. With diverse influences ranging from metal to punk, Snot quickly rose from Santa Barbara to the LA scene, earning respect and facing challenges.

Discover the band's unique camaraderie, fueled by Lynn's complex character and his run-ins with the law. Lynn's raw vocals and the band's fusion of funk, punk, and metal set them apart, creating a genre they dubbed "Americore." Snot's rapid ascent led to a record deal with Geffen Records, releasing their only studio album, "Get Some," in 1997.

Despite facing challenges, including a controversial incident at Ozzfest, tragedy struck in 1998 when Lynn Strait lost his life in a car accident. The surviving members coped by creating a tribute album titled "Strait Up," featuring collaborations with artists like Serj Tankian, Corey Taylor, and Jonathan Davis. The band disbanded, leaving fans to wonder about their untapped potential.

Learn about Snot's post-tragedy endeavors, including a brief reunion with new vocalists, a live album titled "Alive!" in 2002, and recent announcements of a documentary about Lynn Strait. Join us as we delve into the highs, lows, and the enduring legacy of Snot, a band that left an indelible mark on the nu-metal era.

When Snot played in my town San Antonio, the band let me and my older brother in their tour bus. These guys are genuinely nice and gave us stickers, patches n stuff. I was just a kid at the time. These dudes tore it up playing. I miss these guys.

Thank you for this. I've always felt like Snot was a band cut tragically short.

My old band opened up for Snot 6 months before Lynn died. Got to hang with him back stage for a bit. He was just chilling with Dobbs. I asked him what he was listening to at the time and he told me how much he loved the science album from Incubus. Jamie Miller and Sonny Mayo were really cool too. Saw Snot 3 times and they never disappointed!!! RIP Lynn & Dobbs….

Their drummer is incredible. He now plays in Bad Religion. Having the chops to step in for Brooks Wackerman means you are freaking incredible.

I saw Snot as the opening act for Soulfly at my very first live concert, which was at the Glass House in Pomona California in 1997. Snot stole the show, and I was amazed at how energetic and powerful their live show was at the time. As good as Soulfly was, Snot definitely was the highlight of the concert, and being in such a tiny venue(it held like around MAYBE 200-300 fans) was an amazing experience. I remember hearing that Lynn died in a car wreck and I felt terrible for a few days. RIP Lynn.

I've gotta get my Snot CDs out now. Get Some, Alive and the Strait Up tribute are all freaking awesome from start to finish. Just push play and listen until the end

Snot had so much potential. That album was so good. I still rock that album from time to time.

I remember really liking "The Box" when I first heard it on the radio in the late '90s when I was in my teens, but then never hearing about Snot ever again after that. I never realized then that the singer died so soon.

I will always remember that not only was the front man killed, Dobbs the dog was with him too. Neither survived.

Speaking of Manhole, I'd love a retrospective on Tairie B from her early rap career to Manhole/Tura Satana, My Ruin, etc.

Love this band. I remember buying their CD from Best Buy back in 1997 before anyone ever heard of them! I would agree as well, bands like KoRn, Snot, and Deftones are much more than just your average nu metal band.

I know you had done a fantastic video on Snot previously, and as I said in that video. Snot in my opinion is the best one-album band. Get Some was fantastic in 1997, and it is still fantastic now!

I was at that Ozzfest show in 98 in Mass. It was the first concert I was allowed to go to by myself & was my in my top 10 concerts of all time. Snot was one of my favorite bands & seeing them live was incredible!
