I'm kind of suspicious of Sakamoto. Children are going missing, and whether it's the work of a supernatural entity or a normal human isn't really relevant to the conversation. There's enough empirical evidence to indicate that her students are in danger, and that the notes are a clue as to who the next target may be. She's either grossly negligent, deeply in denial, or actively trying to get more people killed.

Michiho initials are M.K as well. I have a theory about the story its driving me nutz, So I wanna share k! :) I think the doll represents Yin and The departed represents Yang, they are the same demon and remind me of Legion. Legion is a demon that consumes lost souls, which makes them stronger. I think Gabo is cursed, due to something his family has done, messing with spirits, or whatever made them important enough to have a mansion, something happened there. I think Gabo is being used to bring these souls to the departed(under the guise that he's helping them the doll always tells him where to find something of key importance), only to watch all his work in helping them be in vain, as he is forced to watch the departed consume them, only he can see it happen. So he's achieving nothing. They are still tormented. When the departed says things like "I must be beautiful" I think that's the passive suggestion being put into Gabos mind, or the manipulation. A Demons whole purpose is to tempt the mortal to sin. What the demon is saying is you must help make me beautiful, and Gabo being spiritually weak through his own doubt, marches forward and brings another soul to the demon. Hence the title Spirit Hunter, The spirits he has hunted have all been innocent, or victims of anothers devices, which caused their deaths. Maybe Gabo is the bad guy, and doesn't know it, He'd be a perfect tool for demonic interference

So this case... Mashita said that Kuromine died half a month ago, basically a couple weeks back, the moment when MK stopped texting Kakuta. Then a couple days ago 'MK' texted Kakuta with gibberish, but because Kakuta was too terrified- especially since he found the Kokkuri notice, he went and checked Kiyohara's corpse and died.
Yashiki implied that Kokkuri's domain reached to anyone who have access to the mushroom- he said it just to scare off Hiroo, but what if it's true? Especially when the fungus is harvested from Kiyohara's corpse?
The Departed has been active for a while now- Konoe called in Yashiki when a few studens have started to go missing.
What if, The Departed's awakening empowered the spirits that reside in the school area- and this allowed Kokkuri to 'expand' his domain beyond the forest and the school? Straight to, you know it, *Lake S*.
Basically with The Departed's indirect assistance, Kokkuri bagged Kuromine and messaged Kakuta just to tie up loose end. Either the ghost or The Departed who had messaged the boy, since it is known to have human agents in the school. It is also deliberately puts the notice in Kakuta's vicinity, just to paint the boy as the next victim. How in the world that ghost got access and even knows how to use MK's phone which must have been at Lake S is the mystery- since Kiyohara died 10 years ago and handphone tech must be the bigass brick-sized Siemens phone instead of the small Nokia that started to get popular with the kids.
I guess this game is set around 1997-1998, but the tech gap is kind of off by a few years? Is '97 the year the small Nokia devices was introduced? Because I remember my dad was still using the Siemens brick phone around this year. It's 2000-ish onward that he changed to Nokia. Maybe Japan is a little more advanced tech-wise back then.

Considering Death Mark 1 took place in 1995 (no canonical reference other than a brief mention, but it took place 5 years prior to NG which took place in 2000) I'm sure floppy disks were still quite common!
