Me at the beginning of this: "Surely it won't be the schizophrenic guy, that is such a tired trope." Me at the end: "........ well, f*%k"

I don't know how to feel about another case of portraying a person with schizophrenia as a "crazy violent person who will kill everyone around because VOICES" when in fact (according to National Institutes of Health) "Most patients with schizophrenia will never be violent. For ever schizophrenic patient who commits a homicide, 100 will die by suicide." Lowkey wished Gab's first instinct was right and it was Mike all along, it made so much sense to me and it was more compelling than "yeah the schizophrenic guy skipped a dose and shot up his workplace"

Spoiler alert: I agree that the storyline we believed happened with Mike being the shooter was a much better outcome than what I felt was adding more stigma to mental illnesses.

I dislike the official answer. Nakamura was not out of meds. They were on his desk. I think your answer fits the scenario better.

Just a heads up—gyp is a slur that refers to “gypsies” (Romani people). It means to shortchange someone, implying that Romani people will try to shortchange you. A lot of people don’t realize it’s a slur so I just wanted to spread awareness

As someone whos uncle developed Schizophrenia because of being a cop in the 70s, the ending to this really disapointed me. The second Nakamura was shown to be Schitzophrenic I got really worried but hoped the creators would have done their research. The biggest danger my uncle was to those around him was that he would spend all of his, and their, money on people who needed help. I may have been weirded out by him as a kid but I never felt afraid for my safety. It would have taken just 20 minutes of dedicated research, or even just one phone call to an expert to create a more realistic narrative that didn't rely on cheap jabs at the struggles of mental illness. 😔

I definitely like Gab’s ending better. It’s a plot twist, subverts your expectations, and doesn’t fall into ‘the mentally ill person went crazy and offed everyone’ trope Mike being the perp 10/10

Psychotic illnesses are incredibly misunderstood and people with these conditions are more likely to be victims of abuse than perpetrators

man I really wish Gabs idea was what actually played out...my partner has schizoaffective disorder, it sucks to see this be another "the mentally ill person did it! mentally ill people are violent & dangerous!" plus besides how shitty that is, Gabs recreation actually made a lot more sense to me, it actually had depth & motive. Mike being the shooter was waaay more interesting & realistic.

From what I've seen theories for, Mike is still sort of responsible. Remember how Darren lost his pills from his car and yet they were on his desk? Could be possible that Mike took them and then placed them on his desk just before the interrogations just to mess with him. The dude did like his "jokes" and didn't like Darren. Still, would've been better if dirty cop did it. Also, there's a missing person poster in a cubicle or two referring to the guy from Painscreek. Nice universe this seems to be in.

I think the pig insulin is not necessarily only an insult (though it is still mean and suggestive). Back in the day diabetics used pig's insulin, as pigs' prancreas are the closest to humans. I think back in 1998 they still used it and it was probably cheaper than the insulin we use today. Though I did not fact-check myself, so please take it with a grain of salt, but I know the first insulin was from a pig's pancreas.

While I can understand Nakamura being unmedicated and shooting Mike in a fit of rage, I don’t like how it further stigmatizes mental illness. Also, I don’t understand why it seems like the witness was shot way more than Mike based on the broken glass

other people have already said this, but i feel the need to add to it that the trope/stereotype of mentally ill people becoming violent criminals/mass murderers/otherwise dangerous people is demonizing, overused, and stigmatized. not saying at all that this is in any way contributed to by Evelien, but the game itself

34:31 I used to work as a veterinary nurse. I can verify that BB is showing all the symptoms of being a Happy and Cozy Cat. I strongly recommend that you continue the care that you've been giving him. That face squish is just too precious!!! So handsome!!! So adorable!!!

Glad Gab doesn’t know what “g*p” means, it means her friends and fam raised her right or she was just around good people. My family and I are Roma, “European Gypsy’s (not PC)”, it’s a slur used against the Rom or someone who “screws you over” in a business deal, Jews also face similar $ - related discrimination.

I spy an anachronism! 27:40 The 5 dollar bill has the big purple 5 in the corner, which didn't come into circulation in the US until early 2008. The case being investigated is happening in 1998. It's not really a big deal in the grand scheme of things lol it's just something I remember talking to my friends about at school.

Im definitely planning on getting this game. And off topic, everytime I fell asleep watching YouTube, 90% of the time I wake up to Gab playing Nancy Drew. I have yet to watch a whole Nancy Drew video.
