Domino Santantonio Hears Slipknot For The First Time

This pop drummer has never listened to Slipknot.

So naturally, we challenged her to play one of the metal bandā€™s most popular songs.

Domino Santantonio is known for her upbeat pop drum covers of artists like Dua Lipa and SAINt JHN. For her, drumming to metal would be like trying to speak a language without being fluent.

But we love encouraging drummers to get outside of their comfort zone, and Domino was up for it. Though she opted not to use the double pedal we set up on her kit, she found a way to make Slipknotā€™s ā€œBefore I Forgetā€ her own (get the full song transcription in Drumeo).

Without knowing Joey Jordisonā€˜s famous drum part in advance, Domino managed to hit many of the punches. And while some of her ideas were very different from the original drum part she still made some accurate guesses.

Watch the video to see how she builds her parts, reevaluates her decision-making, and explains her thought process. Youā€™ve never heard Slipknot like this before!

As a metal drummer, if you give me a pop song I'm just going to put metal drums over it. She put down some serious metal grooves which is even more impressive now that I've listened to her normal stuff.

Fact thatā€™s sheā€™s doing all this with one pedal is impressive and came damn close to the actual song. Iā€™m super impressed.

It clicked for her and when her instincts took over, that was fucking MAGIC! Incredible job, absolutely floored. Drumless track, 1 pedal, and she gives us this? standing ovation

Jesus, the contrast between her ā€œI have no idea what Iā€™m doing!ā€ energy and her ā€œIā€™ve got thisā€ performance was off the charts. As soon as she found the groove she was off to the races. Stunning performance. I love this series!

She seemed a little disappointed in herself in the end, but she absolutely crushed it in that final take. Crazy how artists are never satisfied with their work.

She's way too humble, she was bloody brilliant at this

I almost wish they would add the original artist reactions to their interpretation. these are soo cool.

Unbelievable. Her second playthrough, never having heard the full song, absolutely crushes it. Hits all the major fills, tracks all the time changes, even the half time at the bridge, and adds in some honestly incredible spice herself. Wild. Truly humbling.

Man, what a difficult assignment for a non-metal drummer. I am honestly impressed she did so well.

This blew my mind. Not only did she get real close to the original, she did it with one pedal. Incredible.

Holy crap....when she was supposed to start playing in the first bit and her coming across so timid and sweet to her just killing it....wow. I don't think I've watched one of these videos where I've sat here smiling watching her go to town.šŸ‘šŸ‘šŸ‘ She seems like such a BA sweetheart lol

When she found the connecting fill on the chorus intuitively my jaw dropped...it's such a specific phrasing and she basically nailed it blindly

Man she is way too hard on herself. Once she found her groove to the song, she totally killed it and her choice of beats were unique. I was inspired .

Not only one pedal but literally a third of the kit Joey had. Awesome job!!
