Rated P-G: This movie contains some violent and disturbing scenes not fit for young viewers. This Lego film is based on historical characters and settings from the era of the Byzantine Empire (330-1453) and is a follow-up to our latest Lego film "House Komnenos: A Byzantine Epic", although unlike that said film, this one is not a work of alternate history but almost entirely based on real historical events. Like "House Komnenos", this film is also a stand-alone and not related in storyline to any previous No Budget Films movie except "House Komnenos". Now, this film is set in the year 1185 focusing on the event that led to the sudden and dramatic fall of the once glorious Komnenos Dynasty with the brutal execution of the emperor Andronikos I Komnenos coincided with the rise of a new dynasty being the Angelos Dynasty beginning with Isaac II Angelos. As its title "Revolution in Constantinople" suggests, its story features basically a revolution of Constantinople's people which took place in 1185 which led to the dramatic fall of the Komnenos Dynasty and rise of the new Angelos Dynasty in the course of only a few days, and as this event in history took place on September 12 more or less, this was the chosen date for release! This 12th century Lego epic film is directed by Powee Celdran and is a collaborative project with other international Byzantine history content creators. Please check out its fan fiction prequel "House Komnenos: A Byzantine Epic" below:
   • House Komnenos: A Byzantine Epic- Leg...

This film is set in the year 1185 and here the 67-year-old Andronikos I Komnenos rules as the Byzantine emperor. Previously just 3 years earlier in 1182- as seen in the film "House Komnenos"- Andronikos who was once blacklisted and banished by his family members, the Komnenos Dynasty that ruled Byzantium had returned due to massive popular support, and to reward Constantinople's native Greek people for supporting him, Andronikos allowed them to carry out a brutal massacre of Constantinople's Latin inhabitants. The massacre was carried out and thus Andronikos moved a step further by executing the teenage reigning emperor and his nephew Alexios II Komnenos in 1183, and with no more emperor, Andronikos at 65 took the throne for himself after marrying the late young emperor's teenage wife Agnes of France. As emperor, Andronikos would rule the next 2 years with such brutality wherein he swore to end Byzantium's aristocracy and corruption by literally torturing and killing off any aristocrat he suspected of being corrupt while those who said the slightest thing about Andronikos too were tortured and killed. Although Andronikos was popular among his subjects that hated the corrupt elite and foreign influences in Constantinople coming from Western Europe, Andronikos true enough was not really true to his word as he only used the people's anti-Western (Latin) sentiments to put himself in power. Andronikos' rule would then be tested in 1185 when the Normans of Southern Italy suddenly invaded Byzantine Greece in retaliation for Andronikos' massacre of the Latins in 1182 and thus captured the empire's second city Thessaloniki. The fall and sack of Thessaloniki then turned the people against Andronikos who they ironically just supported 3 years earlier all while Andronikos paranoid as ever ordered the arrest of a young and potentially harmless aristocrat named Isaac Angelos who was a relative of his too. The arrest of Isaac however was not successful as after Isaac killed the henchmen sent to arrest him, he fled to the cathedral of Hagia Sophia where he eventually convinced the disgruntled people of the capital to switch their support from Andronikos to him. In the course of only a few days, Andronikos had fallen from power as the mob took over Constantinople and brought their emperor Andronikos to face his brutal end as payback for his brutal reign, and thus began the rule of Isaac II Angelos and the Angelos Dynasty itself.
