I am a language teacher and you suggest a lot of what I tell my students of all ages (I've taught my own kids German from birth, middle and high school kids, and adults; and I am learning several languages). One tip for people in the US (and possibly elsewhere) - Disney+ has a huge amount of foreign language content, more than any other streaming services we've looked at, especially if you're looking for a language other than Spanish. Also, shows geared for little kids are a great way to boost vocab without getting bogged down by complicated sentences.
Funny note: Harry Potter was the book I used to take myself from reading and translating every phrase to just reading and understanding in a second language. I was doing an internship in Germany and literally went from having to have my host family translate movies during commercials and translating stories and conversation phrase by phrase to dreaming in German and just understanding the language in the span of two days (this happened about 6 weeks in to my experience there; one Wednesday I was incredibly frustrated and exhausted with my limited language but Friday we went to the theater and something just clicked).
And I definitely support the tip to just try it. I'd love to join the small groups but Patreon isn't in my budget quite yet. But speaking a language helps so much!

Det bästa som man kan göra är att ha vänner som bor i Sverige faktiskt. Jag pratar med mina vänner bara på svenska och det här får mig att lära språket väldigt snabbt, fast jag pratar och skriver med misstag då och då. Det är en jättekul upplevelse och jag hoppas att nån gång kommer jag förstå svenska perfekt när ni pratar för snabbt. Hälsningar från Prag.

Thanks for your Slow Swedish channel. I spent a couple years learning Swedish with Rosetta Stone software basically because I loved Swedish movies. I don't know any Swedish people or have any relatives from Sweden. Anyway I found it hard to learn Swedish when there were no classes offered locally. This was 10 or 15 years ago. I have a lot of Swedish shows and movies on DVD. I live in Southern California USA. But I just fell in love with Sweden and all the Scandinavian countries but I picked Sweden to learn the language. I am retired now and it's been over 10 years since I was trying to learn Swedish, but I enjoy your channel very much and you have rekindled my desire to learn Swedish. Thanks again.

Having fun is key! I had tried learning Spanish for years because it's what I thought I "should" do as an American who grew up in the Southwest, and who is half Mexican. But it didn't interest me personally so I never succeeded. I've been in a relationship with an Icelandic man for 3 years now and that language is so insane and there aren't many resources to learn it, so I picked Swedish to learn as a "bridge" to make Icelandic easier. It's been so fun and I've stuck with it every day for 6 months now! I watch Swedish shows on Netflix (my favorite is Kärlek & Anarki) and I found your YouTube! I find Swedish recipes (and branch out to other Scandinavian things like smörrebröd). Makes it easy to want to learn. 😊
