3 years have passed and still, no one ever will know me like she did. Just like that mermaid in the video, she came out of no where, showed me a new side to life, a new universe, opened up my perception, showed me how to love and be loved, brought me a sense of a higher awareness. She made me feel at home, made, made me want to exist. But just as fast as she came, she left. She let me go, but as broken as I was, she helped created a better person within me. She may not be in my life anymore but just like that yellow flower in the video, she left me with memories I will forever cherish and helped me to encourage and nurture within me a true sense of self. I’ll always love her for that.

This song makes me think about my beautiful wife. I am an alcoholic (sober through the grace of God and my lovely wife support) and I was always just wandering through life aimlessly. I had given up on myself but for whatever reason my wife didn’t. I was bad for her and eventually it came to the point that I had to change or die. It hasn’t been an easy journey but I’m glad I didn’t have to do it alone. These have been the best 10 years of my life and I couldn’t ask for anything else.

This music video makes me think of the first time I realized I was in love. Looking back, I felt empty before; never aware of who I was. The beauty of love is that the closer you get to the person you love, that emptiness and isolation is immediately replaced with belonging. Belonging not just as in fitting in, but opening yourself to letting someone know you in ways you will never even know yourself. Emotions you never even knew were inside you are free to come out... And regardless of whether or not it lasts, that love will leave you something to cherish (perhaps a yellow flower).
