Fun fact: the original ā€œpumpkinsā€ were actually turnips because we didnā€™t have pumpkins in Ireland. These look wayyyyyy scarier. Theyā€™re a bit harder to carve but look amazing. If anyoneā€™s looking for something to do in quarantine Iā€™d give it a go And also a couple of really old people have actually asked me to sing/dance or recite poetry before I get my ā€œtreatā€. As this was still done in Ireland until maybe 40 years ago.

Is no one gonna mention how that one stock video woman was literally putting unwrapped jelly beans from a jar into kids buckets?

I know that woman did NOT just pick up individual jelly beans with her BARE HANDS and put them in the kidsā€™ buckets. Ew.

In Australia when I was growing up, Halloween was always just that weird thing that Americans do. The Disney specials on tv were fun though.

Love how I already know all of this because a year ago I did a whole essay on this with a partner šŸ˜Ž We were just told to write an essay about Halloween and everyone wrote about costumes n crap but me and my partner were super into history and wrote about Samhain. Lots of research and I donā€™t regret it. It was fun :))

Moral of the story is THE IRSH FRICKEN ROCK. Thank you Ireland for pretty much inventing modern day Halloween.

real talk..is that why in Greek mythology redheads supposedly didn't have souls? hahah

@megara6812

btw, some of this is incorrect. the celtic nations that celebrated samhain were ireland, scotland and wales (called calan gaeaf in wales)

'The celts were from Ireland, Scotland, the UK and parts of Europe'.....I'm assuming you forgot what Wales was called?? We do exist.
