Maria was always my favorite of OTMA, she was apparently incredibly strong. When no advisors could be found, she was the one who carried Alexei. She could lift him with one arm. She was incredibly compassionate, and a dedicated protector of her brother and her parents. Thatâs why she volunteered to go to Siberia before her siblings. In a way, despite the horribleness of it, itâs almost fitting in a way that her and Alexei were buried together, and are still apart from the rest of the family. Itâs almost like Maria is still saying âI can protect Alexei.â And I bet her parents would be comforted to know that sheâs there with him.

Apparently, itâs actually easy to explain Rasputinâs supposed miracles. For one, he had an amount of knowledge on plants and herbs, meaning he knew to tell the palace doctor to not give Alexei Aspirin, considering itâs a blood thinner. As to lessening his pain, he wasnât calming Alexei, he was calming Alexandra. Children, especially young children like Alexei often have a heightened emotional state when their parents are distressed. With Rasputin having an ability to reassure and calm the Tsarina, it has the reciprocal affect of helping to calm Alexei, and thus reducing his pain and allowing his body to focus on repair, rather then stress or pain

My great grandpa was serving the imperial army in the cossack division and when the uprising started, he was on an execution list. He and his brother started running away towards Estonia where he met my great grandma. Eventually they ended up in Yugoslavia while planning to run away to Greece. They liked the language, it reminded them of home yet it was far away enough from Russia. And that's the story of my family

What's tragic is that Queen Victoria didn't want Alix to marry Nicholas because she knew it would not be safe for her there. She predicted Russia was too dangerous. I'm sure Alix didn't regret marrying the love of her life and having five beautiful children but I wonder if she ever thought about what her grandmother said to her, when she was being held captive with her family, especially towards the end of their lives.
