Hey everybody! Thanks for watching this video on, "The WILD World of Country Music". This video details the basic stereotypes of country music and how deep I think the genre goes beyond them. Within any subgenre, there's bound to be some good, bad, and ugly ... but country hits hard in every aspect. Legendary musicians and songwriters ... some awful wannabes that have made a mockery of the one sacred sound ... and all the interesting characters in between. Check it out! Give it a chance!

Independent Country artists that don't depend on Nashville are growing more and more popular in the mainstream. I'm loving it personally, there are many great artists finding their audience. If you make another vid on americana/country now, Zach Bryan's insane rise is a perfect example. Colter Wall Tyler Childers, etc also have great songwriting and vocals

Nowadays, you got to look at the indie country scenes out there. Oklahoma/Texas Red Dirt music, Appalachian, etc. Artits like the Turnpike Troubadours, Colter Wall, Tyler Childers, Sturgill Simpson and the like are HUGE in their respective scenes, but never get mainstream attention or radio play because their lyrical content is actually good. Country should be about telling stories, not crap about beer and trucks.

I used to be in the camp that thought that all country was trash, but Iā€™ve grown a lot and expanded my music listening. Iā€™ve discovered that just like any genre of music, there is good and bad country. Sturgill Simpsonā€™s ā€œA Sailorā€™s Guide to Earthā€ is one of my favorite albums of all time.

As someone who grew up on the 90s and 2000s era of Country Music, I remember there being such an innocent and comforting vibe to it. Artists like Garth Brooks, Kenny Chesney, Tim McGraw, Vince Gill, Brad Paisley, Alan Jackson, George Strait, Brooks N Dunn, Joe Nichols, and others. Even some of the more poppy acts like Carrie Underwood, Rascal Flatts, Martina McBride, Keith Urban still hold a soft spot for my childhood. But personally, I would say it was really somewhere around 2012/2013ish I just remember there being this huge influx of new artists and a large shift in lyricism and style. Acts like Florida Georgia Line, Sam Hunt, Luke Bryan, and Brantley Gilbert. Aside from some select acts such as Eric Church, the bro country movement made everything in the mainstream become incredibly simplistic where it was the same topics over and over, and it even affected artists I once respected. Women also got shafted out of Nashville for the most part outside of Miranda and Carrie. As someone who still embraces his childhood 90s and 00s nostalgia for the genre, It all was disheartening to see a genre I really respect and love get put under such a corporate commercialized treatment where artists weren't allowed to express themselves anymore. Bro country is what turned me and others away from Nashville and I still don't think they have fully recovered from that period.

A friend of mine asked me what my most "out of left field" favorite song was and I said Tim McGraw's "Just To See You Smile". It's simple, straightforward, beautiful song that I think does the 90's Country music scene proud.

Iā€™m a big fan of 50s-90s country and damnit I still love Toby Keith šŸ˜‚. Itā€™s fun and clearly ridiculous. Sure itā€™s pandering to an extreme but itā€™s almost done behind a veil of irony which makes me love it all the more.

One of my favorite artists in the indie country scene is Charley Crockett. Puts a lot of blues in his sound. Saw him in person and it was one of the best shows Iā€™ve ever seen.

Tom T Hall's "That's How I Got To Memphis" is one of the most achingly beautiful love songs I've ever heard in any genre.

My friend Tyler from high school has played guitar for Travis Tritt, he's a touring musician. I always loved his song "a great day to be alive"

I would also add another artist here by the name of Zach Bryan. He's by far one of the most successful indie country artist of recent years with songs like Something in the Orange and Oklahoma Smokeshow. He was born in American base in Japan, became marine himself, and then quits. Now he's making one of the best country albums of the 2020's so far.

Grew up on 90s-mid '00s country, so it's interesting to see the way artists like Blake Shelton (who has some great older stuff) have changes through the teens and 20s. Beyond that, I'd look into Colter Wall as well for a new age storytelling country singer.

A deeper dive could be looking into the texas and bluegrass country scene. Cody Johnson, Billy Strings, and Zach Bryan are my favorites.

I'm not exactly a country nerd but I was surprised colter wall didn't make an appearance in this video. He's a great artist I'd recommend listening to "devil wears a suit and tie" and "Kate McCanon" by Colter Wall. He's got a deep grungy folk voice with minimal production but it's phenomenal to listen to.

Good video. I'd add that Coe's more serious work is excellent as well. "Another Pretty Country Song", "Revenge", and "Spotlight" are great examples of his unique songwriting. Also, his Jimmy Buffet disstrack is absolutely fantastic.
