Why Arctic Monkeys' Tranquility Base Hotel and Casino Is a Masterpiece

The Arctic Monkeys sixth album 'Tranquility Base Hotel and Casino' was a revolutionary step into the unknown for Alex Turner, lyrically grappling with space age psych pop and new-fangled sci-fi concepts.

Upon its release the critics raised a collective eyebrow, and as far as audiences were concerned the 'Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino' reaction seemed mixed, with some suggesting this new sound might alienate much of Arctic Monkey's post-AM fanbase.

On the contrary, however, in this Arctic Monkeys 'Tranquility Base Hotel and Casino' review video, I argue that this concept album about a hotel on the moon for ageing rock stars is - in fact - a masterpiece and it deserves to be analysed much more closely.

The more I've listened to 'Tranquility Base Hotel and Casino', the more convinced I am that the Arctic Monkey's latest musical venture is worthy of more praise. I hope you enjoy it!

Four out of Five is a masterpiece and the fact that that song was the song he used to advertise his album just adds another level of genius

People act like TBHC came out of nowhere, but if you listened to the last shadow puppet’s everything you’ve come to expect, there’s not much of a leap between that and TBHC.

I cant believe I hated this album for over a year without giving it a chance. Then I sat down, plugged it in, and closed my eyes. Instantly I was taken to Tranquility Base, a different world I did not want to leave. I listen to this album from start to finish at least 4 times a week. A year later I'm still loving it. And yes, this is Mark speaking...

No ones gonna talk about the brilliant editing? Damn dude, this is one of those videos i could watch for hours purely based on how visually compelling it is. Also love how you weave the lyrics into your explanation seamlessly because even though this is one of my favorite albums ever made, it is very hard to comprehend with all of the references, anecdotes, and general disjointedness. One of the best vids on YT.

I just like every album; The pure rock and roll songs (R U mine, library pictures) or ballads (jeweller's hands). At first didn't like TBHC, but yesterday afternoon I said: ok now close your eyes, think at this album like a Bowie's one, and enjoy it; guess what? I LOVED THIS MASTERPIECE. In particular One point perspective mannn

Bruh, you should review Depeche Mode's Spirit. This album is one of the most genius arts Depeche ever did, but you gotta take a deeper look into the lyricism and cinematicness of the sound in the album. The album was completely overlooked by critics and fans, while it subtly showed people in their face where they're wrong, and how they're not observing what and who they're listening to. If you'll get this album, I guarantee, it will blow your mind.

If I'm being honest this album dropped when I was 15 and I had been a huge fan even then and I remember loving AM when I was ten as my parents brought me up on their music, when Tranquility base was announced I was the most excited I could have ever been. When it dropped I was so dissapointed, its not what I wanted from them and to be honest I just wasn't open to it, I even saw them on this tour and of course they are amazing. Now I'm 17 and I've been listening to It for two years and it's only been over the last year I've really come to love and appreciate the album and see it as a masterpiece in writing and instrumentation, I think in some ways it is their best album. It's an album that needs time to appreciate

The teaser video for TBHC (with the intro to Four Out of Five) came out a week before my dad passed away. I was 16 and I remember being so excited for the album to drop. When it did come out in May, it was the only thing I would listen to and it helped me through the shock stage of my grief. Listening to it now, three years later, I don't feel sad. The album was my guide and support through one of the toughest periods of my life. TBHC will always hold an extremely special place in my heart.

Such a great video... I’m so obsessed with this album not only because the music but also the concept hidden behind the lyrics, which is like a mist to me...(I kinda get what they’re trying to express in the song but I just can’t tell it clearly) Your video really helped me get better understanding of this album so thank u so much for making it. It’s amazing.

A truly phenomenal album. It all just comes together in a beautiful way. It's like one of those films that just gets better with each viewing.

I been listening to Arctic Monkeys since 10 years. I wouldn't call myself a fan, but I loved Humbug. I can't say the same thing about AM. When I heard this album for the first time, I didn't pay too many attention to it. I thought it sounded good, but that was it. Just a nice elevator music album. But then a friend told me to pay attention to the lyrics and the structure of the songs. It was a completely different album. The whole characters this album creates, the storys and all that combined with the music it give as a result an atmospheric album that transports you into that moon based hotel and casino. It make me feel that I'm in a Kubrick film. I love it. Bloody brilliant.

The 2020 read of this album is just talking about living through the pandemic. It’s almost prophetic.

I can't even begin to describe how much I love this album, and I wasn't even into slow, mellow whatever-genre-this-is before it came out. Just gonna say it blows my mind how "no one's on the streets, we moved it all online as of March" came true in 2020. Very excited to see where they go next after this album. I did like them from the beginning but the more they mature the more I'm truly a fan.
