I'm so happy to see Cop Car back again! I absolutely love the pacing in the music, how it carries you along as if you're watching a camera tilt and spin. Then there's the apocalyptic feeling of it all and the sort of bare emotion purveyed with the long guitar strikes and drum beats that switch halfway to a more smooth melody--which despite that, only serves to make it feel MORE desperate and crazed, although not in an overly intense way, it still has a strange calm over it. The lyrics are obviously masterful, because it's Mitski who neverrr lets us down when it comes to impactful words and triple meanings. And there's the ending! Where it fizzles out into that famous weird base tone that she uses in so many songs. To me, I always imagine a view of greenery when I hear it and I don't know exactly why, it's calm and steady but also 'zingy', making me think it somehow sounds like a plant feels? I'm pretty sure that's not the explicit intention behind that tune, but either way it's how I feel it. It's an almost false-calm-like sound to endings she does that sort of ties off the song and closes it as if you're finishing thinking about an old memory. God, I fucking love this!!!! I wish I had the energy to write out full analyses on every song someday, that'd be so damn fun. Not enough people talk about the sheer mastery and visceral emotional impact of her music's instrumentals, or the complex artistry that Mitski portrays in every second of her music. A lot of fans prefer to joke, and while that is fun, I don't think it gives enough credit or seriousness to the art Mitski produces for us. I'm rambling instead of doing homework, but whatever. Clearly my thoughts are one of a kind and worthy of a lengthy youtube comment!/sarcasm Side note too: I'm going to my first ever concert literally tomorrow and I'm beyond excited! Somehow I managed to get front row seats and I can't WAIT to hear Mitski live in person! I've been a fan for half a decade now and have pretty much been shaking in my boots with glee every day since I got those tickets >o
