In this video I react to a video by Frank Tedesco where he takes song requests on Omegle, works out the song by ear and performs it. As I spend a lot of time on my channel playing and performing songs by ear, I thought it would be interesting to watch someone else do it and give you some insight!

Here is the original video:

i think its worth noticing that Frank does not simply want to 100% copy a song. He makes it his own. Often (all the time) it becomes better than the original.

Not to take anything away from you, mostly because this is the first video I am seeing on your channel, but Frank is simply the best I have ever seen. The bearded GOAT.

The thing that I love about Frank is that he plays with emotion. Marcus seems to be so concentrated and technical. You can listen to them both and they are both extremely talented, but when you watch them... it's just different. (IMO)

Another thing that I really like about Frank's playing is how solid he is rhythmically. In addition to being able to play a wide variety of intricate rhythms, he is also play two rhythms at once (not just hemiolas, but more complicated combinations, too), and it feels like it doesn't slow him down at all. It feels like he just has huge amounts of practice under his belt to cover almost anything that gets thrown at him rhythmically. His expressiveness is also a huge plus, as you already mentioned.

Don't forget the "take it up an octave" trick for extra feels. Works every time 😂

Yea Frank is legit and I love the positive vibes he's bringing to YouTube. I wish him a lot of success, glad you gave him props finally at the end lol

The ability to 'trust' the performer that you mentioned, is not something I think I've ever heard anyone else point out specifically, but it's totally true. As the listener I'm not worrying about if it's going to be enjoyable, but how they are going to choose to interpret the piece.

I think he's most likely speeding up the interstellar performance due to the short attention span of the people on omegle lmao, i agree with him though a little slower would've been even more beautiful tho its still nothing short of a master piece ofcourse :)

I really like how you don't just say "Oh he's really good" and actually break down the cords and how you would think about how the other person would break them down to play. It's very nice to see someone who isn't just reacting to make a video. You understand and relay the information about what you're hearing in the video you're reacting to.

I did see a video of Frank talking about how he figures out songs, he has relative pitch not perfect pitch and most of it is just recognising the chord progression shape for example I–V–vi–IV, and then knowing how to play them all in every key. Then obviously also determining the melody over the top.

"I just shed a tear inside of me." The most British thing ever said on Omegle.

You are so underrated! You manage to listen to a recording of a song on a phone that Frank is listening to, and instantly figure out the chords and melody. It's insane to me that you can do that! And you throw your own version on top of what Frank is playing while explaining what he did and suggesting ways to further improve the quality of the performance.

Frank, Marcus, You, TheDoo, Rob, Harry Mack, you know the deal. Musicians on YouTube are always great.

When you see it from an experienced pianist point of view, of course the reactions won't be the same as a non pianist person but still Frank is great and I love the way he plays the music and do not copy the exact original. Also, I have seen a lot of british people reacting to his music with a lot of emotions too.

I watch Frank a lot so it was cool seeing his piano skills from another person's point of view. Seems like a few people mistook the breakdown as criticism but I loved the video

hes often playing songs a bit faster that have a long intro, beacuase ppl.s attention span on ome/omegle is like 5 seconds. so he has to catch them quickly

Frank has said in his videos that he usually goes through 10 hrs. of video for YouTube posting. I love your insight on how you or Frank did it. keep up the good work

One of the things that helps Frank play by ear is the fact he has Relative Pitch (Not Perfect Pitch).
