A big thank you to patron Dennis (@dennisleytonb) for making this video!

It screened in the Midnight Madness section of the 2017 Toronto International Film Festival and in the Midnight Premieres program of the 2018 Sundance Film Festival.
On review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, the film holds an approval rating of 93%.

A.O. Scott of The New York Times said, "Blunt, bloody and stylish almost in spite of itself, Revenge is a synthesis of exploitation and feminism." Kevin Maher of The Times provides a more negative review: "Labelled a 'feminist rape-revenge movie', it takes all the traditional tenets of that most dubious of genres and simply does them again."

I just saw this movie on Shudder a few weeks ago. I can't believe no one is talking about it much more. The cinematography & editing really pulled me into the movie. I felt the tension and suspense. I love the scene you address here. I'm just an avid movie watcher. I'm enjoying learning more about the components of movie making. Thanks for the video.

That rolling apple transition to the wooden shades made me start learning more about video editing. That was the most visualy memorable moment of the film to my inexperienced eyes.

The lack of clarity about how far back he is makes perfect sense, because we're seeing her perspective, and she never turns around. We never get a shot from where she is, looking back, because she never looks back. She's just running, she doesn't know how far back he is and doesn't have time to find out. We can both guess that he's far because he keeps missing, but since she doesn't know, we don't know either.

I'm a female and could not take my eyes off Matilda Lutz (Jennifer) during the entire film. Even when she is drenched in blood she is still so gorgeous.

Hello, guys! Really great comment about the scene! It was that good, that convinced me, to watch whole movie, not only one scene :) There is one issue - when Sven talks about changing music on cut (around 4:45). This is a great comment and great filmmaking decision. BUT... I think, it doesn't exist :) Maybe there is director's cut version? In my version between shot A (4:43) and shot B (4:46) there were a lot of another shots (like the whole additional action when the guy uses his sock to cover his wounded shoulder). To sum up - the music doesn't change on cut drastically, it slowly quiets down during these all shots, which aren't in the video above. And the whole effect is rather regular :) It's a shame, because Sven's idea is top-notch. Thanks for great video Sven and Tyler (this and another on your amazing channel)! Regards from Poland! :)

Love your analysis and want more but don't get how an audio podcast can discuss visual shots effectively as this?

Fwiw, at 6:05 in your review here the "siren" sounds is what usually happens after one fires a gun if not wearing ear/noise protection. The faint heartbeat finer defines that. Personal experience, and life with tinitus that "sounds" very similar to the noise here.

I'm surprised - given that this is a cinematic analysis - that they guys missed the lovely graphic match between the blood trail at 4:35-4:37 and the winding road at 4:37-4:40. It's a subtle but pervasive cinematic technique used throughout the film.
