I started listening to the strokes in 2010. My big bro got me into them when I first got interested in music. I learned the band had a hiatus that seemed indefinite. So when Angels dropped, I was so ecstatic! I def love the album because itâs the first album by them that I got to see the release of and because the experimentation peaked the interest of my inner artist. Very rad! Thank you for defending Angels because I totally agree

Angles is great, it just sounds like a mix tape. But that's probably because it came out 5.5 years after First Impressions. Under Cover of Darkness and Machu Pichu are two of the best Strokes songs, still, and Taken for a Fool is classic Strokes sound with a little more funk than we'd heard before (familiar + fresh).... Maybe the sessions were strained, but that's produced some fantastic albums in rock, too. Always thought You're So Right was their attempt at a Joy Division vibe, and in that context, I enjoy it.

Can't agree more with you on your analysis. The only thing I would add is that despite having no-bad-tracks, Angles may feel like a collection of really good individual songs, and doesn't come together so tightly (I don'y fully agree but I accept the general consensus). However, it seems the only defense this album needs is from Julian himself. Angles rocks!
