This is something a bit different from me - a new series that explores a band's early days up until the point they got signed. Let me know what you think and who you'd like to see featured next!

The Strokes felt like the perfect place to start as when they arrived in 2001 they seemed impeccably formed. But as I discovered just a few years before they were playing cheesy Metallica and Bob Marley covers and Julian was too shy to even perform live. In the video, I also get into when Julian and Albert met as 13-year-olds at Switzerland's most expensive boarding school, how they came up with the Strokes name and why producer Gordon Raphael initially felt their garage sound was past its sell-by date.

For the thumbnail I've used an image from Cody Smyth's book The Strokes - The First Ten Years, which I believe is getting rereleased later this year (2023). It's a wonderful document and I'd say the perfect stocking filler for that Strokes fan in your life.

The strokes were the first band i "discovered" on my own. I saw the uk version of is this it in a local record shop. Me being like 10 or 11 was of course interested in the cover. They were part of the reason i wanted to learn guitar and drums. Shout out to the strokes fr ❤

As an early Strokes Fan I approve. That being said most docs and other journalist don’t mention how they blew up in Europe especially in the UK. They challenged the uk rock status quo. And they sparked a rock garage revolution that bounced back to America but not to the level of the UK & the rest of the world. Either way I learned a lot….props & respect to you. 😎

A very well done video! I discovered these guys shortly after I did The Verve. If The Strokes are my favorite American band, the Verve is my favorite British band. Although I’ve seen a short documentary on The Verve, I love the way you present and so would love to see one from you! ;) Thanks man, and keep up the excellent work.
