What songs should have been included on the compilation record?

Billy Squier - Rock Me Tonite. That music video ruined his career. He lost all credibility as a hard rocker dancing around a bedroom in his pajamas. Squier even admits that the song/video derailed his career.

Will Ferrel sounds like he’s doing a Ryan Reynolds impression lol

04:54 I remember when We Built This City came out it was on the radio multiple times a day. There's a speaking part in the middle were someone playing a traffic reporter comments on the Golden Gate Bridge. One local station here took the original part out and replaced it with their own traffic reporter commenting on our own local bridge using the exact same dialogue from the part in the song. Nobody ever said anything about it, and it played like that for years over here.

I thought the best of times was a good song. Mr Roboto is when they jumped the proverbial shark.

In addition to what everyone else said so far about the wrong choice of songs, Will Ferrell's impersonation of Dennis DeYoung is terrible. DeYoung's real voice isn't soft and as high pitched as that: he speaks with a very stereotypical Chicago accent. Watch his interviews with Professor of Rock to get a good understanding of his actual voice.

I think “overplayed” is a common theme here ✌️

Alfonso Ribeiro's iconic " Carlton dance" on Fresh prince was his impression of Courtney Cox's dance in the video.

I remember this skit very well, and I was baffled by the exclusion of "I Wanna Know What Love Is" by Foreigner. I had to edit for bad grammar, and it cost me a ❤. Feel free ❤my comment again 😀

The compliation should be called "NOW! That's What I Call Mediocre!". But, fo' real, the compliation from the SNL skit isn't bad. It's just most of these popular songs can be played on supermarkets.

What is hysterically funny, to me anyway, is that I actually LIKED all the songs being panned in the skit. I was LOL by the end of the vid. Excellent job, brought back a lot of fond memories for me.

Stand by REM comes to mind. As does Shiny Happy People. Is Abracadabra really Steve Miller's biggest hit? Seems like Fly Like an Eagle is better known.

We built this city, and now it sucks- Nick Johnson put these words together a few years ago, and I laughed heartily at it since

I genuinely enjoy like 2/3rds of the songs on this list, lol

I would have thought that "The Girl Is Mine" would have been the song used for Paul McCartney and Michael Jackson, not "Say Say Say" which is actually somewhat intriguing. But then...I didn't write that skit...

These songs were from a period when many bands were having a hard time finding their musical way with the changes to “charting” music of the time. Thankfully this crap period gave way to future classic genres like grunge, hip hop and alternative rock.

I guess i got terrible taste in music, as i like alot of these songs. Particularly "owner of a lonely heart", "abracadabra", "we didn't start the fire", "jump", "dancing in the dark", etc. Interesting note, my generation was introduced to "do ya think i'm sexy", through seeing Ned Flanders sing it to Maude, in a classic '90s Simpsons episode, lol.

The only ones that i dont listen to much now is We Built This City and We Didn’t Start The Fire . The rest I stll like and listen to, and have been since they came out. To each their own.

"Dancing in the Dark" makes me think of that film, "The Place Beyond the Pines", when Ryan Gosling and Ben Mendelssohn are celebrating their first bank robbery.
