Guilt as a Philosophy can be accepted or rejected, but we should not judge those who accept this as part of Religious beliefs.
To impose guilt in Politics should accordingly not be considered mostly when this comes from atheists. Julia Gillard was saying she did not believe on God and so do freely, including of course many on what is called the Left side of Politics. To impose a sense of guilt for people who have had nothing to do with acting poorly, can be classified as a Spiritual stand.
It goes beyond that: it is common knowledge that there is no borderline in Aboriginal traditions between faith, Law and what we call Art, and so on (Oneness) Just as well as Christianity is not included in the Constitution, neither should a Culture where Spiritual aspects are embedded.
It is very unfortunate that a general trend of withdrawal from Spirituality and Psychology is putting the acceptance or rejection of the Voice purely on Legislative Grounds, and based purely on the short term History of modern Australia. When we mention respect, do we really know what we are talking about when Aboriginals Culture has been manipulated for decades while Aboriginal People have been declared Citizens since the sixties? I is very common for some, who see themselve as progressives, to have their walk and their talk not matching: a respect for nature should include those who have lived the closest to it. Bureaucrats must be the most withdrawn from what they intend to turn into Legislation: sometimes, to let be is a much better way to go!
