In the ad, they don't even mention that you'll be using a completely different operating system, which is a HUGE deal to most people.

My dad got an ad for one of these and he wanted to buy it. I sent him this video and it made him change his mind. Thanks Linus!

My grandparents actually considered getting one of these and I showed them just exactly how easy it is by pulling out one of my identical SanDisk 64GB sticks and dropping Xubuntu on it. I can appreciate whatever mild scripting they did and setup that they included (which most distros already have anyways), but the absolutely extreme markup they do for nothing but their own Linux distro and a cheap flash drive is insane and absolutely predatory. I also feel that this is basically an ethical violation of what Linux was built on to just charge for completely non-transformative versions of Linux

That's like priest coming into my home , going to my sink and filling up a jar with my tap water then placing a sticker with the words "holy water" and selling it to me for 80 bucks.

Hah, they're selling a flash drive and a Xtra- PC skinned Lubuntu which is already free. I feel scammed and I haven't bought anything at all.

Imagine paying $70 for a flash drive with a Linux distro flashed on it.

Ha! I remember that "performance gauges" widget! I felt like such a badass geek using them as a kid. I'm pretty sure they didn't really work either.

I've been giving grans elementary OS lately, and they absolutely love it. I charge $69 for in-home backup/restore, install and training, and my customers have been super happy about it. elementary OS is so clean and user friendly, and super low on resource usage. They feel like they've got a brand new pc. The difference is that I'm with them through the entire process, and I'm only a phone call away if they have any issues. You don't get that with this extra-pc garbage. Great review though.

Me: "Hey, grandma, when you see the Splash screen, just hit the appropriate Function key to enter into your computer's bios. Then, just navigate to the Boot options and rearrange the order of the identified boot drives so that the computer is set to boot from the USB drive first. Then..." Granny: (0.0)

The only time I really felt this 'resurrection' moment was with my old 2008 macbook when after 10 years I put Lubuntu 18.04 lts on it and suddenly could play youtube and browse modern websites again.

I got an ad for this recently, and out of curiosity, I clicked it. I laughed so hard reading the article and all the misleading claims they were making šŸ˜†
