#cmpunk #aew #allelitewrestling #wwe #fired wanted to find out just how much of a loss CM Punk was going to be for AEW so the only way to do that was to have him compete on Ring of the Hawk season 4. The show where we watch back a wrestlers short run with a company and then give them a final grade. This should be CM punk at his best in aew because there was no drama for the majority of these 23 matches. The high point was the MJF feud and a random jobber called Lee Moriarty who makes the girls party!

That match with Wardlow was Super Cena-levels of booking.

Regarding Matt Sydal/CM Punk, I don't know how many people know that these two came up together in the indies. Both got their big break in IWA-Mid South and are pretty good friends. Matt doesn't get enough credit and Punk fed a ton to him to make him look good.

The Matt Sydal match was incredibly one sided but the one with Wardlow where Punk just eats like 19 elevated powerbombs in a row and still wins has to be the most egregious by far

If i remember right the bobby fish wasnt supposed to kick out at all but he did it intentionally to try and make himself look strong in defeat and thats why punk looked a bit shocked. I might be remembering it wrong though.

I wanna see Bobby Fish’s “where’s the lie” run in impact

For Punk to come back after so long out, I thought his early stuff was actually pretty good, and he got better as he went. Just skimmed through and fair scoring on the whole in my eyes, if a bit negative in areas. For me you can see in the first 10-15 he was putting over other talent by making the match competitive, and that meant some pacing issues/things went a bit long, but it was a rusty veteran versus pretty green rookies, so I rein in my expectations personally as a result.

I thought Punk had some great matches in his first run . Hell , I liked his second run ! I was looking forward to more of it . Collision was banging the first several episodes . Especially some of those main events . Matches of the year in my book . But sh!t happens and im super tired of talking about the behind the scene drama at this point . No use .

I didn't realize he had so few matches to compete in Ring of the Hawk, haha. Busy now but will definitely watch later. Love this channel!

The flipping clothesline thing is one of Hangmans finishers its called the "buckshot lariat", and when punk did it to silver it was meant to mock hangman. Punk called his the "punk-shot lariat".

It's a damn shame how everything turned out. This started out as HUGE and a long overdue comeback. All well, now we know how a CM return would go.

It’s crazy that I never realized this show never looked at story or match psychology of the run. That cuts out so much of the story of the run

11:05 Sting's face randomly appearing in the bottom right-hand corner made me think he particularly approved of that move. In fact, he thought it was 'TOASTY!!!!!'

I loved Punk's run in AEW, and I think his feud with MJF was AEW's best ever feud period, imo. I thought "Oh wow, the kayfabe is so good! Punk is the old guy struggling to keep up with these young guys, what great psychology!" but the reality was that Punk really was struggling to keep up 😂😂.

Agree with most of this video but the Kingston match was unbelievable when it happened. It's also important to note just how hot Kingston was at the time. It was a 2 week build to a one off match at a ppv in a sprint (by punk standards at least). It just felt so fresh not just for punk but in wrestling as a whole at the time. And this run really shows how difficult Ring of the Hawk actually is. It's easy to watch the videos on runs you didn't see but the context really is everything. Nice to see a run I was actually watching so I can see how the matches are graded in comparison to watching the shows.

Honestly I dont think its an issue of "getting on with the times". Dont hate modern wrestling but kicking out of so many hard hitting moves in a random match is ridiculous

CM Punk's run was bizarre from start to finish

An important thing about his earlier matches is that 1, he wanted to work with a lot of younger guys to give them a rub and 2, the story for Punk at the beginning of his run was that he was trying to shake off ring rust, hence why he went 50/50 with a lot of mid card guys

Honestly sucks that Punk decided to wait so long before coming back to the wrestling world.

Wasn’t bad, more of the definition of talking them into the building. Without the promos; the matches don’t feel the same without context. But the AEW run wasn’t bad, nothing is better than the MJF stuff. Nice video

I will say, the promo Moxley cut after beating Punk was pretty great where he goes "what? is that not what you guys wanted?"
