Fun memory with PlanetSide 2: back in the early years of the game's life, continent locking didn't work like it does now. Instead of the continent basically locking down until it's unlocked later, the continent would basically say "owned by

Hired Ops is the sequel to a game called Contract Wars, a game which came out in 2011 and was browser only for a long time. The developers were originally called AbsolutSoft, and were led by none other than Nikita Buyanov, the man behind Battlestate Games and Escape from Tarkov. Around late 2012 to early 2013, Nikita started posting concept art for a project he was working on by himself called Russia 2028. This project was eventually put on indefinite hold, and in the resulting silence Nikita founded a sister studio to AbsolutSoft called Battlestate Games, and began work on a new shooter set in the Russia 2028/Contract Wars universe, called Escape from Tarkov. Initially people thought this was a revival of R2028, but as the game inched closer and closer to closed alpha and beta testing, Nikita clarified that Russia 2028 would be a singleplayer game, and that Tarkov would be its multiplayer prequel. Tarkov obviously has become a massive success, and because of that, Battlestate Games grew apart from AbsolutSoft and became a much larger company. Nikita did not mind AS continuing working on Contract Wars and eventually Hired Ops, and they even exchanged some voice lines and other assets to achieve greater continuity in the universe they'd laid before us. Recently, Battlestate acquired AbsolutSoft due to AbsolutSoft doing exactly what you said and abandoning the game, and as a result they now own Contract Wars and Hired Ops. This is why the intro now says Battlestate Games. We may actually get some support for it in the future! The universe and lore of Tarkov is actually very expansive and has had over a decade of writing put into it. Russia 2028 was actually conceived before Contract Wars, and because of that the world is already almost entirely fleshed out for all three games to thrive in. Russia 2028 is still in limbo, but Nikita does mention it occasionally and still says that it will enter full production the minute Tarkov releases in a 1.0 state, but people are skeptical as Tarkov seemly has many years to go before it will be complete, and we may actually reach the year 2028 before Russia 2028 is even officially revealed. In the meantime we have Tarkov Arena to look forward to, which aims to be a blend of faster paced FPS games such as Hired Ops, and the brutal gunplay and survival mechanics of Escape from Tarkov.
Sorry for the novel. Just a huge BSG/AS nerd who has played their games since I was a teenager lol. I love having opportunities to talk about their history since a lot of people aren't aware how in depth the lore is.

I've played planetside on and off since it released and to this day it's still one of my favorite large-scale shooters. The game has huge battles that you can turn your brain off in, as well as an incredibly in-depth territory control and squad systems that are fun to learn. The game even receives support still in the form of large content patches every couple of months.

1:21 that’s actually a real thing, it’s called the AR-57. It’s a conversion kit that allows you to use P90 mags and ammo with your M4 platform.

Glad to see someone mention Planetside 2! One thing I think you forgot to mention I think is the outfits/sqaud systems. Unlike really any Battlefield game, PS2 gives players the ability to lead large platoons, usually consisting of several different squads of 12 or so people.
Platoon ops are by far the biggest draw to that game, communicating and working effectively with a large amount of players can easily turn an alert in your factions favor, and it's extremely satisfying to be a part of. I highly recommend checking your Squads tab next time you are on at peak hours and joining a big outfit platoon.

What... what did they do to Ring of Elysium? It used to be about varied traversal mechanics in a dense, snowy environment. The gameplay loop was about finding a way to get past the exposed, open dunes and preparing for your movement before making a mad dash for the next ring on skis, or a hang glider. It was crazy

I have never been as excited as when I saw planetside 2 come up in this video. Its a great game that I have put way too many hours into. While it has its issues the developers are responsive and communicative and the community, while also having some issues, overall is great. For anyone looking to play a massive scale fps I can not recommend planetside more.

I am having an absolute blast with Halo Infinite. I pretty much haven't played anything else since it was released. The gameplay is solid and I don't normally notice the bugs, most of the bad ones have been patched. There isn't as much content as previous Halo titles, but the new edition of bot playlists and the Academy makes warming up and messing around a lot of fun, plus since season 2 there are quite a few playlist options (even if it's still missing some iconic ones).

Man... hearing that announcer say the line hit me hard, I have so many fond memories with combat arms, I spent a couple years on it a long time ago
Becoming a master getting nut-shots on that map with the train and a cliff to snipe the other team or hiding on the structure with 3 or 4 buddies and wait for the other team to rush up your spawn
Specially zombies mode and fireteam.
Nemexis HQ was one of my favorites getting to fight around and reach that Mecha section with the boys, man I loved the medic mech and keeping my team on theirs
I think that is probably why until this day I love so much fireteam warzone on H5

Ohhhh my god I used to play a TON of Combat Arms as a kid, I was honestly thinking about it when I saw "Free FPS games" in the title. I played from around 2009-2016ish (whenever Reloaded released), and I have so much nostalgia for this game, even if it was a hellhole of microtransactions and hackers. I even redownloaded it earlier this year to see how the population was, but unfortunately on both Classic and Reloaded, there was only around 1-4 matches total ):
I miss good ol' quarantine and fireteam 😔
