People always assume that just because it's on the GameBoy, that it can't be that great, but I'd consider this one of the top 5 best 2D Mario games for sure. I even like it more than Super Mario Bros 3.
Yes, the first Super Mario Land was decent, but this one is even comparable to Super Mario World in my honest opinion, and Super Mario World is my second favorite 2D Mario game.

I have such good memories of playing the original~ as a kid I always wished this game was in color and imagined what it'd look like if it were. The visuals of this version go beyond my expectations!

If SML2 were longer, it'd hands down not only be my Gameboy game, but also my favorite Mario game. Luigi with floaty jump DEFINITELY being a HUGE reason.

Luigi breathes new life into this game. Itās astounding how much effort was put into him. For example, in Tree Zone, there are certain bug enemies that run away from Mario. Luigi can not only jump higher but he can run faster. So, he can not only keep up with the enemies but he can kill them as well.
