One of the best contemporary horror films Iâve seen. Unnerving, unsettling, and had the whole cinema audience on the edge of their seats and gasping out loud. It is fantastic to see a youth-centric horror film that isnât corny or cringe like other teen horror flicks. It takes a classic âsummoning the dead gone wrongâ concept, but delivers it in a refreshing, quirky and disturbing way. Also it was wonderful to see an Australian film done so naturally, without playing to overdone Australian clichès of the bush and landscape. It felt authentic. Overall, a very memorable film on par with other A24 horror successes like Hereditary.

Well done to the Philippou brothers for getting this made! I remember watching their videos on YouTube back in the day. To see these guys from Australia make a feature film and get the backing of A24 is huge. Reviews so far seem to overwhelmingly positive, hope this performs well for them on a global audience.

this movie had my jaw on the floor. sophie wilde knocked it out of the park and so did zoe terakes and chris alosio. some particular scenes with riley were were insane. the ending left me feeling empty yet wanting more. really hoping for a sequel because this cast had some impeccable chemistry. really wish this movie could have made it to the two hour mark because it was amazing. an amazing directorial debut for the racka racka brothers hope they do more horror movies

This movie was fantastic in the cinema, it has great character development and transitions from reality to the paranormal so well without trying too hard. The ending wraps the story up well where you aren't left with any questions about what is next and it doesn't feel like the ending is rushed. Amazing.

Just back from the cinema, I gotta admit movies that make people think about it after you walk out of the hall is great.
This one makes me think a lot, it is definitely one of the scariest movies of recent years, it looks like a teen horror from the outside, but on the inside, it's something deeper.
And the horror of the movie is suffocating, highly recommended!

Friendly reminder that A24 didn't "make" this film. They acquired it for distribution in the US, and let's definitely be thankful that they did! But the credit for "making" this one goes to Causeway Films (production company behind The Babadook!!!), Bankside Films, and Talk to Me Holdings (presumably the directors' production company?), and the directors themselves are the Australian youtubers RackaRacka, known for making really shocking viral videos that probably traumatized you years ago.
If you want to credit the creatives behind this, make sure you're crediting the right people for the right things :D

One of the best horror movies of the last few years for me. Aside from a few violent scenes (when the little brother binds his hand), the film is also very profound. It's about self-discovery, loneliness, depression/trauma. I even understood the ghost hand game as a metaphor of drug use. It gets you insanely high, you want more of it, but at the same time it destroys your life and your family. Gradually you lose your mind more and more.
Great film, visually well done and acting performances were also top

I saw this yesterday and was pleasantly surprised. If you go in with reasonable expectations this film will surprise you. Donât listen to all the hype and stay away from the trailers, the less you know the better off youâll be going into this. This movie is not about jump scares, itâs just effective at creating atmosphere and a feeling of dread and despair.

I feel like A24 is the only studio actually taking chances on original ideas and I got to say Iâm a big fan of them for it. Maybe other studios can learn from them and we can finally start having quality instead of quantity in cinema.
