Tony Costa, aka 'The Cape Cod Vampire Killer', dismembered young women after he killed them. Subscribe to Our Life: bit.ly/3dBMxvl

Serial killers are the dark stars of modern culture, but is it nature or nurture that creates a serial killer? Born To Kill takes an in-depth look at the cases of some of the most notorious murderers that have shocked the world.

Tall, handsome, intelligent and quiet, aspiring poet and taxidermist Antone Charles "Tony" Costa - a relative newbie in Provincetown, Massachusetts - quickly caught police notice when young women began to disappear during the hippie counterculture era of 1968-1969. Strange coincidences converging around a remote cemetery in nearby Truro would tie to Tony's strange loner personality - hanging out only with teenagers, marrying a 14-year-old, and raising his own marijuana garden. Though claiming drug use made him insane, his trial determined he knew right from wrong when he killed and took needless time to dismember his victims' "parts".

"He was an automaton; just a walking weirdo." That old-timers description is great. 😆

(Spoiler) An article about Costa said that he blamed the murders on his alter ego, Cory. He had also been a drug informant with the P-town cops. That's how he kept an eye on their investigation. He had a love/hate relationship with his mother. That's probably why all the women looked alike. And like Norman Bates, he was into taxidermy. All the women were shot and stabbed. Very brutal murders. He's probably forgotten because this all happened right before the Manson murders.

They ignored so many signs back then. Guess we'll never run out of stories like this.

We moved to the Cape when I was 5yo and Trooper Gunnery lived across the street from us. I just happened to click on this video and was very surprised when I saw his name. Small world. These crimes must have a long lasting impact on people like him who had to see things most of us shouldn't see.

The inner fortitude and strength of the investigators who had to view the aftermath of Costa is astounding. To their dying day having to witness such depravity and carry on is commendable. RIP to all the victims of this monster

I was born & raised in Boston, spent I don’t know how many summers down the Cape with my parents then with my own kids! If you’ve ever been there you know it’s hard to see it as dangerous or associate the place with danger! Evil is truly everywhere! Stay safe & vigilant everyone. Particularly with the upcoming holidays.. ❤

I think the male psychologist is right on the money about this fiend. The tying up of that young woman was a very big red flag.

They say those who abuse the poor animals is just a tell tale sign of what they will do to humans. A precursor.

I too went through the hippie phase, drank, did drugs and never did it occur to me to get violent against anyone. PEACE, LOVE AND ROCK & ROLL. FLOWER POWER.

An important distinction often not well understood by juries in capital cases such as Costas’s is that between PSYCHOPATHY*—-which is a *personality disorder that in no way impairs one’s understanding of right and wrong—-and *PSYCHOSIS*—-which is a mental illness in which one is truly not the master either of one’s own mind or actions; one’s disease is.

I was lucky enough to have been born and raised on the Cape. Some of my best memories took place in Provincetown aka P-Town. It breaks my heart that it was a nightmare for others. ✌🏼💚

I grew up in the 70s & drugs were everywhere & we all did them & I’ll have to say when I was doing drugs they never made me even think about doing things like this. Drinking I will say I’ve had violent episodes but never drugs. I think people with crimes like these they use drugs as a cop out.
