tessa, my mom and i are going through the exact stage you were talking about. the one where we're trying to individuate and learn how i am as an adult and how she is as the mom of an adult. and it's been so hard and i hate to admit that i haven't been doing it that well. i'm so close to my mom, but it has been a tremendous struggle. but to watch this video was beautiful. it reminded me of things i absolutely adore in my mom and the core of why we care about this transition. so thank you! and thank you, tessa's mom. you are absolutely inspiring <3 <3 <3

Recently as I've gotten older and moved away for college, I've realized that my parents are actual people?? I've been thinking about this a lot lately. I think growing up, it's easy to idolize your parents or resent them for being authority or both at the same time - the relationship is complicated and weird because of the specific role you each play in each other's lives. But as the kids get older the relationship changes, and it's emotional because you sort of lose a person and gain a person at the same time? My mom has talked about the same thing regarding feeling like she's lost the "little girl" I used to be, but sort of gained an adult friend. It's so weird. I love this, I love your mom, I love you, I love my mom. <3
