I'm 64 years old Japanese. I listened to this album when I was in college. I'm really happy to be able to listen to it for the first time in a while. I can feel the flow of time.

George Harrison's Concert for Bangladesh help make a desperate situation better. It created a ripple effect -- the model for USA for Africa (We Are The World), Farm Aid, Live Aid, etc. Big star with a big heart.

George Harrison - Concert For Bangladesh ---From Wikipedia - - - The Concert for Bangladesh (or Bangla Desh, as the country's name was originally spelt)[1] was a pair of benefit concerts organised by former Beatles guitarist George Harrison and Indian sitar player Ravi Shankar. The shows were held at 2:30 and 8:00 pm on Sunday, 1 August 1971, at Madison Square Garden in New York City, to raise international awareness of, and fund relief for refugees from East Pakistan, following the Bangladesh Liberation War-related genocide. The concerts were followed by a bestselling live album, a boxed three-record set, and Apple Films' concert documentary, which opened in cinemas in the spring of 1972. The event was the first-ever benefit of such a magnitude and featured a supergroup of performers that included Harrison, fellow ex-Beatle Ringo Starr, Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton, Billy Preston, Leon Russell and the band Badfinger. In addition, Shankar and Ali Akbar Khan – both of whom had ancestral roots in Bangladesh – performed an opening set of Indian classical music. The concerts were attended by a total of 40,000 people, and the initial gate receipts raised close to $250,000 for Bangladesh relief, which was administered by UNICEF. After collecting the musicians easily, Harrison found it extremely difficult to get the recording industry to release the rights for performers to share the stage, and millions of dollars raised from the album and film were tied up in IRS tax escrow accounts for years, but the concert has been recognised as a highly successful and influential humanitarian aid project, generating both awareness and considerable funds as well as providing valuable lessons and inspiration for projects that followed, such as Live Aid By 1985, through revenue raised from the Concert for Bangladesh live album and film, an estimated $12 million had been sent to Bangladesh, and sales of the live album and DVD release of the film continue to benefit the George Harrison Fund for UNICEF. Decades later, Shankar would say of the overwhelming success of the event: "In one day, the whole world knew the name of Bangladesh. I was fortunate enough to have been invited to this historic concert by people from Grey Advertising inNYC.The concert was held at MSG, where else? My girlfreind and I were only 18 in August of 1971. It was an extrodinary show and Ravi Shankar's contribution was the work of a real master. I remember being astounded to find Andy Williams sitting right in frount of me. We shook hands and spoke for a moment and I was suprised to see him there. I was very young at the time!

How amazing. I was looking through this special antique box filled with R+R memorabilia from the 70s. Incredible stuff I have not seen in years. Way more than I could describe here. At the very bottem I found my torn ticket half from the Concert for Bangladesh. I had saved it because the event was so special. According to the ticket the price was $5.50. I did not buy it myself, I was a guest but it's hard to believe today. I was in sec. 320 row.F seat 8 with Andy Williams sitting directly in front of me. It's a weird coincidence because I just posted a comment on this very subject yesterday. ( I think) I'm listening to the concert on my I Phone as I write this. Leon Russel is performing his wild ass confessional cover of Jumping Jack Flash. The music, the ticket, I've just traveled more than 50 years back in time. Incredible!!
