Heyman´s booking of Mikey in 94/95 is the best example ever of how you get someone over, from being a complete nobody that literally not a single wrestling fan in the world has ever heard of before, to becoming a true main eventer in the eyes of your fans, who they will gladly pay good money to see going up against just about anyone else on the roster. Why a guy like Tony Khan, who in five years has failed to really get anyone (who isn´t named MJF) over in AEW, isn´t trying to learn from Paul and to learn why what Heyman did back then worked so much better than what Tony does by putting people in one random match after another, when Paul only had a tiny fraction on AEW´s budget to work with, is truly baffling and speaks volumes as for AEW´s downhill slide over the past two years. In any case, listening to Mikey telling the story about the first match that he had with Austin had me chuckling all the way through it. He seems like a really nice and very humble guy, who deeply appreciates everything that the wrestling industry gave him, so I can only wish him absolutely the best in his future. Often, if I have to show someone why I fell in love with pro wrestling, I´ll show them some of Mikey´s old skits and interviews from his early ECW days, because so many of those were downright hilarious! If I had to pick one favorite, it would probably be when Mikey was getting help from the Public Enemy in training for his then upcoming ladder match with the Sandman, but it´s a tough choice! Then again, as for my favorite post-match interviews of all time, I would be hard pressed not to put Cactus and Mikey´s after winning the ECW tag titles up there either! Mikey´s facial expression throughout that interview is simply priceless!
