@davidgilmour @pinkfloyd #davidgilmour Luck and Strange is the upcoming fifth studio album by the English songwriter and guitarist David Gilmour, set for release on 6 September 2024.
On 24 April 2024, David Gilmour announced the upcoming release on September 6 (through Sony Music) of Luck and Strange, his first album of new material in nine years.[2] It was recorded over five months in Brighton and London with the producer Charlie Andrew. Gilmour said Andrew challenged him musically and "has a wonderful lack of knowledge or respect for this past of mine" thus he didn't defer to him, which he loved. Gilmour's wife, the writer Polly Samson, wrote the majority of the lyrics, which she said reflected themes of mortality and ageing.
Musicians contributing to the record include Guy Pratt and Tom Herbert on bass, Adam Betts, Steve Gadd and Steve DiStanislao on drums, Rob Gentry and Roger Eno on keyboards, with string and choral arrangements by Will Gardner. The album also features keyboard recordings from Gilmour's former Pink Floyd bandmate, Richard Wright, in 2007 from the barn jam sessions. It will also include lyrics from Gilmour's son Charlie, and harp and vocals from his daughter Romany.
Take these binds everlasting
Canβt undo that voodoo that you do
And the knots that we fasten
Will not work themselves loose
Whatever it takes
Steer clear of the snakes
The road to hell is paved with gold, theyβll tell you
All the things that you donβt need, theyβll sell you
Your conscience uncontrolled
And beauty to behold
The promise of eternal youth
The spoils of fame, a carpe diem attitude
The flamΠ΅s are high, the piperβs call, contagious
A fixΠ΅r who will numb your pain, and strangeness
The wheels are hot, the hangover outrageous
This dealer he will trade your soul for favours
But youβll reap what you sow
As I found long ago
The promise of eternal youth
The spoils of fame, a carpe diem attitude
