I always liked that they made Victoria perfectly likeable and normal instead of a brat

One of the darkest parts of the film that flies over so many people heads is that she was left for dead. She wasn't killed. He knocked her out, and buried her alive. That's why her hand was sticking out of the ground. She woke up. And she tried to get out

I feel like SO many people underrate Victoria. Yes, I get it, Emily is amazing and she deserved so much more than she ever got. But Victoria, I am convinced, is just as amazing in her own right: only she doesn’t get as much screen time and character development, because it isn’t her story. The glimpses we do get are enough to show that she is not the boring, generic nobody that most people seem to take her for.

my favourite scene, is when the dead go up, and the living are scared until that little boy says "Grandpa" and it becomes a massive family reunion. also, the bit where the old woman, is yelling at the skeleton, until he, with a smile on his face, makes her realise that he's her late husband, who clearly died young and has missed his wife in the living world. i always imagine, that when she did pass on, he was waiting for her, to take her arm, and they could enjoy the underworld together

Emily was the true hero of the story, not Victor. She didn't get to settle down or have children, but not everyone does. She accepted her death, and that her life was cut short. She honestly deserved better.

I agree that stop-motion animation are in a league of their own and deserved more attention.

Fun fact: life expectancy in the past wasn’t low because people tended to drop dead at 40, but rather because babies were more likely to die before becoming toddlers.

You totally misunderstood the dynamic between the parents. Victoria's were destitute nobility and were seeking an advantageous union with a rich family while Victor's were noveaux riche merchants from humble origins who were seeking for high society status through their son's wedding. The arrangement was advantageous to both for different reasons.

I love Emily's decision, she was robbed of a full life, unfairly and realized she was doing the same to victor, victor and Victoria were destined to be together from the very beginning.

As a kid I didn’t like Victoria but now as an adult I realize Victoria is wonderful. She’s nice, caring and didn’t mind how clumsy Victor was. Emily and Victor were perfect too but Emily was more in love with the idea of it. The fact Victor would have had to die to be with her was wrong as well. In the end everything turned out for the best.

I used to want Victor to end up with Emily instead of Victoria, but everyone involved would have been completely miserable. Victor would have had to die to be with Emily, while she would feel guilty about having him die for her. Meanwhile, Victoria would be forced into an unhappy marriage with Barkis.

Maturing was realising Victor and Victoria were probably a better couple than Emily and Victor,, even tho 7 year old me felt robbed of my ship💀

Emily was seeking refuge after being betrayed by the man she married. This was not a love story between Victor and Emily but a tragedy focusing on Emily. Emily wanted someone to fill her hole in her heart, which, unfortunately, Victor became the victim of (or most likely the “target”.) Victoria, in her first interaction, was attractive from his love for piano and his awkward personality, while Emily just wanted to feel affection. Regardless, she would have fallen in love to whichever man proposed to her, while Victoria, although they had a small interaction, fell in love with what she witnessed. Therefore, I ship victoria with Victor.

When I saw this as a kid at age 7, the main thing that stayed with me was how sad Emily's story was. The movie didn't freak me out with all the death and underworld (it was enjoyably creepy), but it was probably the first piece of media that made me seriously comprehend the concept of tragedy - a pretty girl who just desperately wanted to be married, but was instead cruelly murdered, spending her afterlife still waiting on a groom...

One of my favorite parts of the movie was when Emily's ex is in the chapel/wherever they are for the wedding, and all the dead people want to attack him, but the old skeleton says that they're not allowed to interfere with the living, but then, after he drinks the wine, he just says "OK he's all yours"

This movie always makes me feel so conflicted for all the characters, they were all stuck in situations they didn't like: Victor was forced into an accidental marriage, Emily wants to be a bride but her husband doesn't want her and Victoria's fiancee was kidnapped. They were all fighting for what they wanted and didn't quite get what they wanted

I honestly still feel really bad for Emily. She didn't deserve anything that happened to her but she still stayed so possitive

It's funny to hear Alex say those things about Victor because as a girl, I would love to be with someone like Victor. He lied to Emily because he didn't want to hurt her feelings, not because he was a coward. He is very empathetic and cute and kind and he tries to do the right thing. Idk I think he's pretty great haha.
