Stacy's Mom is a bop for sure, but what really impressed me is that the theme song for the movie 'That Thing You Do" movie from 1996 was written by Adam. The movie was not about a fictional 'british' band... they were clearly american, but they were obviously inspired by the British invasion of the era it took place in.

RIP Adam Schlesinger. I saw FOW in '05 up in Boston, half of the crowd left after they did Stacy's Mom. That was literally their show stopper.

A good mini-bio for sure, but I'm completely amazed that you didn't include one of Adam Schlesinger's greatest achievements (and last big one): producing the Monkees' "Good Times" album, which not only earned critical success as the best since the Monkees' heyday, but also their first top-20 album since 1968.

Great video!!! I remember hearing "Radiation Vibe" for the first time. I was in my mid twenties.... And that song was just so catchy, that I couldn't help to like it. My bong-muddled brain of the 90's liked all kinds of music. Anyway, Stacy's Mom is probably my least favorite song by FOW.
I was sad when Adam passed away. It reminded me of my own mortality.

Fountains of Wayne deserved so much more. Radiation Vibe has the greatest harmonies this side of the Beach Boys, and the band created fantastic pop songs with wit and hooks for days. Personally, I would say That Thing You Do makes Adam a 2 hit wonder, and I have always loved Sink to the Bottom. The songs are still amazing and easily found if you want to explore songwriting at its finest.

They must have had some connections in Hollywood. I remember the show Kingdom Hospital had Worry About You by Ivy as the theme song and featured FoW's Red Dragon Tattoo during an important scene.

Another coincidence! I was singing Stacy's Mom out of the blue for no reason and trying to remember the name of the supermodel that was in the video. Then I opened youtube and this video was in my subs feed.

True story:
Saw these guys in Nashville and I was excited to finally see them on the riverfest event. I sang along with all the oldies , but no one else knew the words. They kicked into Stacy's Mom and everyone knows the words.
I've never seen a singer more annoyed at a song response than that. I think they played it last and he actually dropped his Grestch guitar on the ground at his feet as he left stage.
Never seen a vocalist so defeated.

I remember seeing the music video for the song Radiation Vibe on a channel called The Box. I brought it up as a potential cover for the band I was in but the guitarist said it sounded like Everclear and didn't want to do it.

I love when the music videos are literally visuals of the lyrics from the song. I prefer that over videos that don't seem to have much to do with the song itself.

Correction Radiation Vibe peaked at number 14 on alt charts it was #71 on US radio songs chart. Also the band in That Thing You Do Was American.
