"Ă" is actually the same word as English "I" in "Island". The old spelling was "Iegland", later "Iland", and in Middle English "Island". So "Island" and "Ăland" actually are the same word (meaning "water-land").
Funny thing: "crazy" is borrowed from the Norse word "kras" meaning = something is really broken.

I would think it's only half of sjuksköterska that is crazy. The first part "sjuk" isn't that dissimilar to it's English equivalent "sick" (but most English speakers get very flustered by the Swedish whistling "sj" sound that isn't used in English). Sköterska is the word for care giver and I can see why that one is a weird word.
