That scene with the ladies in the car pulling up and trying to help her is one of the most unsettling scenes in all cinema to me. It completely envelops the feeling of being in a toxic relationship, too isolated to ask for help or even hear the concerns of others. Shakes me to the core.

Love how this can be taken in so many ways: she is luring him to his death, he is pushing her towards hers or alternatively they are both destroying each other. Such a clever music video.

This song and video reminds me of abusive relationships and Narcissism. You keep trying to escape but they follow you everywhere and never leave you alone until they destroy you. Massive attack blows my mind, pure audiovisual art.

The man going into the water at the ending gave me chills. It's like even though she already "disappeared"/"escaped", it doesn't matter he's still going, she'll never escape. OMG amazing.

I will never forget when this song came out. I was fresh out of an abusive marriage. This song kept me from this fate. This song helped me through. And still does as km healing.

This video plus lyrics "been here before" reminds me of arguments with ex partners: because you love them, or in this delusion that things will change or get better - you keep putting up with the shit, you confront them, you stand by them, you face them, but they keep pushing your boundaries. But instead of letting each other go, you drown in it. You keep holding each other down instead of healing. And like the woman who stopped in the car - her feelings to me conveyed ya know, your family and friends people around you can see it, but you dont listen to them, and eventually they just let you keep doing it because you wont listen. I dunno why people do this to each other, but we do. It hurts that loss of love, but time does heal, the coffee stain on the table will fade out in the sunlight kinda thing. But you can always see where the ring was..

From 2:45 to 3:50 there's this huge gap in the song that creates a tension and kinda brings you in and under, and then that chord change at 4:01 just lifts this huge weight of tension off your shoulders. Absolutely beautiful.

Kosovan actress Arta Dobroshi plays the backwards walking woman. Interesting perspectives from many of those commenting, but it makes me question whether it's the visual or the lyrics being analyzed. If you read the lyrics, then revisit the video, I think the presentation is less about human relationships and more about the despair of existence and the oppression and hopelessness one feels when believing he/she will never being able to move forward - enough so to drive one to suicide. The bespectacled man is not a former love but a post-modern version of the grim reaper returning to the woman's life for a successful union and conclusive end to the misery.

I'm addicted to this song, I've seriously never replayed something the way I do this. Genuinely still gives me chills.

When they're waiting near the water, she's the one to take the first step backwards, and that shifts the entire perspective of the video. The subtlety of it all!

A few observations: --She almost always steps back second, and her first steps in the video come moments after his. She acts in reaction to him. --The camera focuses on her, and the friend speaks to her, not him. He may or may not be real, but she probably is, and she is also the protagonist of the "story." --He can see where he is driving her, but she cannot. This hints at intention behind his moving her into traffic and the sea. With that in mind, I don't think the interpretations of her luring him are well-supported by the video.

Not only they make the most iconic and pure music I've listened to in many years, their cinematography and activism cautivates. Gets me sucked into another dimension, a better one. Plus... Tied in Unfinished Sympathy = Genious! F*cking poets god damn it.
